PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mercurius Faunus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mercurius Faunus has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mercurius Faunus seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mercurius Faunus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Patton!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patton throws a left and a right that both miss
and Faunus counters with a nice uppercut.
Patton throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A jab lands there for Faunus.
Patton tries for a takedown but Faunus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Patton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Patton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Faunus struggling a bit here.
Patton fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Patton tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Patton wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Faunus, who protects the arm well.
Patton looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Faunus is avoiding damage well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patton throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Patton creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Faunus sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Faunus dodges the ground and pound from Patton.
Faunus stops Patton from passing to mount.
Faunus is trying to control Patton's posture but Patton avoids it.
Patton wants to lay and pray for a moment but Faunus keeps working.
Patton misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Patton tries to move into full mount but can't pass Faunus's legs.
Faunus is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Patton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patton is looking to take a break and control but Faunus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Patton passes the guard and advances to mount!
Patton scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Faunus?
Patton is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Patton wants to control the pace but Faunus is squirming around nicely.

Patton lands a big elbow.
Faunus on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Faunus tries to get out of the position.
Faunus wants to hold on but Patton pushes him away.
Faunus knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Patton on the ground.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Patton cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Faunus is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Patton is landing with some decent strikes but Faunus is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Oh Faunus is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Patton postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Faunus in real trouble here! The ref calls for Faunus to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rick Patton!
After winning the bout, Rick Patton thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
