Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Scott Walpole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Davies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scott Walpole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Davies!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Winston Howard and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davies tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Walpole manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Davies moves into range and clinches up with Walpole.
Davies just leaning against Walpole, taking a breather.
Davies fails to pull guard.

Walpole manages to pull guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Davies trying to control the position from guard on top but Walpole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Walpole not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Davies with a flurry of punches that miss.
Davies wants to control from the top but Walpole keeps moving.
Davies slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kevin Davies.

Davies instigates a clinch.

Walpole is working for takedown but Davies is calmly controlling the position for now.
Walpole throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Davies blocks it with crossed arms.

Davies breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Davies changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walpole tries to avoid it but Davies manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walpole to the ground. Walpole escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Davies shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Davies showed some decent athleticism there.
Walpole works his way to full guard. Good work.

Walpole is looking for a triangle but Davies pushes his legs off easily.
Walpole wants to sweep here but Davies controlling him for the moment.
Davies is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Walpole holds on and takes a little breather.

Walpole really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kevin Davies was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Walpole shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Davies counters with a single leg into guard. Walpole didn't expect that.
Walpole is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Davies stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Davies shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Walpole napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A lull in the action here.
Walpole parries the strikes from Davies easily there. Davies is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Walpole to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walpole is not content to let Davies control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davies might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Walpole haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Walpole is looking to regain half guard here but Davies keeps moving and retains side control.

Davies throws a strike aimed at the side of Walpole's head but Walpole avoids it well.

Davies tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davies is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Davies.
Davies misses with a head kick.
Walpole misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Davies closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Davies has clasped his hands together around Walpole's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Walpole tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Davies wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Walpole is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Walpole pushes Davies off and gets back to his feet.
Walpole closes this distance looking for a takedown but Davies circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Davies changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Walpole looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Walpole is trying to escape the position but Davies is controlling the position.
Davies lands an elbow.

Davies has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Davies drives through with a takedown into Walpole's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Davies ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Walpole moves away.

Walpole shoots in for a takedown but Davies shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Walpole or perhaps it was just good defense by Davies, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Walpole. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Davies closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Davies is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Walpole will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Davies is looking to take a break and control but Walpole is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Davies has Walpole pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Davies pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Walpole tumbling to the mat - Davies dives into Walpole's guard.
Davies slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Walpole keeping moving, preventing Davies from controlling successfully.

Kevin Davies showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Walpole gets caught napping as Davies dives in and scores a takedown. Walpole manages to retain guard.
Davies loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Walpole has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Davies has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Davies breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Walpole dives in and grabs Davies's left leg, looking for a takedown. Davies pushes down on Walpole's head and hops out.
Davies wants to clinch up but Walpole keeps it at a distance.
Davies avoids the body shot from Walpole.

Davies shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Davies is trying to work for a kimura but Walpole is defending well.
Davies really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Walpole. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Walpole looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Davies perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Davies is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Davies wants to stand up but Walpole is controlling the position.

Davies wants to lay and pray for a moment but Walpole keeps working.
Davies is controlling the pace.
Walpole keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Davies seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Kevin Davies has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Walpole swats away the attempt to clinch by Davies.

Davies has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Walpole is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Walpole stops Davies from passing to mount.
Davies wants to control but Walpole is keeping him busy.

Davies decides to stand back up. Davies steps back and let's Walpole get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Davies counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Davies.
Scott Walpole has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kevin Davies is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Davies is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Well Davies has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
