Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carl Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Bilger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bilger is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: its all fun and games. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones throws a head kick but Bilger moves out of range.
Jay Bilger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bilger is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Bilger circles away and we're back to standing. Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A nice inside leg kick there by Bilger. That's going to slow Jones down. Jones throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Bilger throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily. Jones shoots in but Bilger avoids the takedown attempt easily. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Jones.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bilger throws a sloppy head kick and Jones counters with a slapping leg kick. Jones shoots for a takedown but Bilger saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bilger tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Bilger misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Bilger doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Bilger shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily. Bilger shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Bilger tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bilger manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Bilger throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bilger tries a head kick but it misses.

Jones fails with the takedown and Bilger counters with a head kick. That will keep Jones thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Bilger looks gassed! Jones bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. A head kick misses from Jones. Jones misses with a head kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Bilger looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Bilger would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Jones trying to control the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jay Bilger dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Jones misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Bilger counters with a flying knee. Nice. Bilger checks the leg kick nicely there.
Bilger tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away. Jones moves out of range of the body kick from Bilger.

That's one minute gone in the round. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bilger. Bilger uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Bilger looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Bilger won't allow Jones to sweep him here. Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bilger's guard. Jones preventing the sweep. Bilger can't keep his opponent in guard - Jones advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones trying to pass the guard but Bilger defending well. Jones moves into full mount! Bilger won't be happy about that! Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bilger working to try and regain half guard.
Jones content just to control the position here. Jones stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Jones tries a low kick but Bilger avoids it. Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bilger counters with a head kick. That will keep Jones thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Jones shoots in and drives through. Bilger sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bilger blocks a head kick by Jones.
A low kick from Bilger is predictable there and Jones counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Bilger circles away.
The fighters circling - Bilger throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Jones scores with a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Jay Bilger will probably get the nod - 10:9. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Jones shoots and misses and Bilger counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Bilger tries to pass to full mount but Jones defends it. Bilger is thwarting Jones's attempts to control the position. It looks like Bilger is going to stand back up.
Bilger is pressing down on Jones's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jones is holding on for now. Jones gets full guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Jones pulls Bilger in close to his closed guard and prevents Bilger from doing any damage or advancing position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Jones controls Bilger momentarily but Bilger frees himself.

He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jones in particular looking to stall. Jones is looking to take a break and control but Bilger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Jones passes to full mount! Jones looking to secure an arm triangle but Bilger defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones trying to control but he's not successful this time. Bilger tries to hold on but Jones postures up. Bilger keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Carl Jones just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Bilger circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Bilger checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Jones misses with the combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Bilger misses with a few strikes there.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Bilger checks a leg kick. Jones throws a head kick but Bilger moves out of range.
Bilger throws a lazy head kick and Jones counters with a flying knee. Nice. Bilger shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Jones counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Carl Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jay Bilger is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Jones with a body punch. A glancing blow.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carl Jones. Well Bilger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality.
