PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mang Kanor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Remmy Shultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kanor has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Remmy Shultz enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mang Kanor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Remmy Shultz!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shultz scores with a takedown into Kanor's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Shultz drops back looking for a leg! Kanor is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kanor manages to kick Shultz off! Shultz jumps back into Kanor's guard.
Shultz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kanor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shultz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kanor works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Shultz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kanor has a closed guard, preventing Shultz from standing up.
Kanor controls Shultz momentarily but Shultz frees himself.

Kanor is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shultz defends well.
Shultz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Shultz's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Shultz is looking to stand up but Kanor won't let him.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Remmy Shultz wasn't active enough on the ground.

and Shultz counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Shultz can't break the clinch.

Shultz turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Shultz manages to end up in side control.

Kanor is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Island Top Team that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kanor is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Shultz has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shultz has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Shultz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kanor has him pressed against the cage.

Shultz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shultz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Shultz can't keep his opponent in guard - Kanor advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Shultz is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.

Kanor is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Shultz has managed to free his arm - good work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Shultz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Shultz's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kanor tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Shultz smiles and moves away.

Shultz is trying to force a seperation but Kanor has the dominant position.
Kanor is looking to control Shultz's arms but Shultz gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kanor has his back to the cage.

Shultz jumps into guard, dragging Kanor to the mat.
Shultz wants to control the position but Kanor says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shultz gets full guard.
Shultz wants to stand and escape but Kanor is having none of it.
Kanor trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Shultz looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shultz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shultz can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kanor working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kanor tries to free his leg and advance position but Shultz is retaining full guard.
Kanor stops Shultz from standing up.
Kanor wants to control from the top but Shultz keeps moving.

Shultz has his foot on Kanor's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kanor works his way back into a safe position though.
Shultz is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Shultz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Shultz throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kanor uses it to pass to side control.
Shultz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Kanor is looking for a kimura but Shultz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kanor to get the leverage.

Shultz is looking for a triangle here but Kanor uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Kanor looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Shultz is avoiding damage well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Remmy Shultz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Shultz shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kanor wants to control but Shultz is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Kanor is looking for a sweep. Shultz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Shultz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Remmy Shultz.
Shultz lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Shultz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kanor but Kanor pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Shultz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kanor's guard.

Shultz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Shultz has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Kanor!
Kanor takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


Kanor is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shultz looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Oh Kanor is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mang Kanor has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Remmy Shultz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Shultz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
