The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ray shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Ray trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Carlos wants to sweep here but Ray controlling him for the moment.
Ray throws a big right hand that misses.
Ray knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carlos on the ground.
Carlos wants to stand and escape but Ray is having none of it.
Carlos wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Ray has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ray accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Roman Carlos wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ray tries for a takedown but Carlos circles away easily

and Carlos counters with a single leg into guard. Ray didn't expect that.
Carlos throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Carlos not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ray will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ray bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carlos's guard.

Ray wants to stand but Carlos is controlling his posture from full guard.

Ray has his takedown stuffed
enabling Carlos to counter with a crisp jab.
Ray really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carlos throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

and Carlos counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thad Ray. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Carlos tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ray knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Carlos not landing any meaningful shots this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Roman Carlos was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Carlos has managed to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roman Carlos dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Ray lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Carlos clinches with his opponent.
Ray drops down looking for an ankle pick but Carlos pulls his leg out and moves away.
Thad Ray is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Carlos rushes Ray and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Ray tries to work over Carlos's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Carlos gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Carlos tries to free his leg and advance position but Ray is retaining full guard.
Carlos trying to control but Ray is working from the bottom.
Ray can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carlos controls the pace.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Roman Carlos hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ray shoots and misses
and Carlos counters with a three punch combo that has Ray backing up. Ray nods at Carlos to acknowledge the strikes.

Ray is rocked!

Carlos drives through and clinches with Ray against the cage.
Oh Ray is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Carlos effectively controlling the action here.
Carlos with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Carlos manages to break the clinch.
Carlos dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carlos thuds his shin into the meat of Ray's side.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Carlos is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Ray is in big trouble! Carlos is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Ray. Poor guy.
