PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Six OFive (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robbie Rockin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Robbie Rockin was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Six OFive!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robbie Rockin!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rockin on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Rockin lands a straight punch to the body, keeping OFive at a distance.
OFive defending well as Rockin loads up on a big left hand.
Rockin takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Rockin avoids the body shot from OFive.
Rockin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
OFive moves out of range of the strikes.
OFive walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

OFive drives through with a takedown into Rockin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
OFive trying to control the position from guard on top but Rockin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
OFive wants to pass the guard but Rockin is keeping the position.
Rockin trying to keep a closed guard but OFive is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rockin can't keep his opponent in guard - OFive advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
OFive has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

OFive is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rockin defends it well.
OFive wants to pass the guard but Rockin is defending well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. OFive lands a nice short elbow.
OFive is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rockin gets back to full guard.
OFive trying to control the position from guard on top but Rockin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rockin tries to strike from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OFive throwing strikes from guard but Rockin blocks nicely.
OFive slips nicely into half guard.
OFive not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
OFive thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
OFive prevents Rockin from improving his position.
OFive missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
OFive is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
OFive stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rockin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
OFive trying to control but Rockin is working from the bottom.
Rockin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
OFive stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rockin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
OFive is working hard here to advance position.
OFive slips nicely into half guard.
Rockin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

OFive has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A shot to the body from OFive misses
and Rockin counters with a head kick.
Rockin throws a body kick that misses.
OFive misses with a series of wild punches.

OFive shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rockin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rockin keeping moving, preventing OFive from controlling successfully.
OFive sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rockin's guard.
OFive trying to control the action but Rockin is working from the bottom.
Rockin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
OFive trying to pass the guard but Rockin defending well.
Rockin felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Rockin moves into full guard.

Rockin keeping moving, preventing OFive from controlling successfully.

OFive is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Rockin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Rockin has escaped and now he's on top!
OFive wants to hit a switch here but Rockin passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for OFive there!
OFive really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

OFive tries to hold on but Rockin postures up.
Rockin wants to control the pace but OFive is squirming around nicely.
Rockin content just to control the position here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rockin tries to control but OFive wriggling away.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Robbie Rockin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A head kick by Rockin misses
and OFive counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

OFive fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rockin manages to avoid it.
OFive tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rockin swivels and escapes.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from OFive, right into the meat.
Rockin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

OFive decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
OFive is pressing down on Rockin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rockin is holding on for now.
OFive slows the pace down in half guard.
Rockin trying to control but OFive postures up.

OFive passes the guard and advances to mount!
OFive throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

OFive wants to control the pace but Rockin is squirming around nicely.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
OFive has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rockin's face.
Rockin working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Six OFive dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



OFive feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
OFive throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rockin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
OFive missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
OFive works a leg free and moves into half guard.

OFive is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rockin has managed to free his arm - good work.
Six OFive overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
OFive throwing shots but Rockin is blocking nicely.
OFive seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rockin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rockin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rockin is defending against the submission attempts here by OFive.

Rockin pushes OFive off looking to stand but OFive dives back in and keeps control.
Rockin is in trouble now - OFive has advanced to mount!
Rockin is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
OFive raining down shots from the mount!
OFive scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Rockin?
Rockin wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by OFive.

OFive scores with a couple of good head shots there.
OFive sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
OFive landing strikes from the mount and Rockin is in trouble!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

OFive goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rockin turns into him and now he's in OFive's guard.

Rockin got a little sloppy there for a moment and OFive has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rockin has managed to get both his arms back between OFive's legs - danger averted.
Rockin wants to control from the top but OFive keeps moving.
OFive throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Rockin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OFive is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rockin wants to control from the top but OFive keeps moving.
Rockin preventing the sweep.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Rockin wants to stand but OFive is controlling his posture from full guard.
Rockin's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Robbie Rockin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
OFive connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Six OFive is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
OFive ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rockin moves away.
Robbie Rockin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rockin moves out of range of the strikes.
OFive goes for a double leg but Rockin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rockin continues to drive forward.
Rockin creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Rockin throws an elbow but it misses.
Rockin throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but OFive blocks it with crossed arms.
OFive fails to pull guard.
Rockin has a couple of punches blocked by OFive.
A short right from Rockin.
OFive tries to pull guard but Rockin forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Six OFive. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rockin lands a right hand that snaps the head of OFive backwards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
OFive is looking to take this one to the mat.
A frustrated look appears on Rockin's face as he tries to break the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
OFive wants a takedown.
Rockin working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
A head punch on the inside from Rockin fails to land.

OFive pulls Rockin into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Six OFive showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for OFive, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
