Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lincoln Rice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Guerra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lincoln Rice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Guerra!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guerra tries to keep at a distance but Rice has taken the fight into the clinch.

Guerra has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rice uses from the top position.
Rice looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Guerra wants to get back to his feet but Rice is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Lincoln Rice has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Guerra shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rice counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rice stays in close to Guerra's body and controls the position.

Guerra is working an open guard so Rice takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Guerra tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rice swivels and escapes.

Rice moves into the clinch.

Rice has picked Guerra up - he's going for a ride! Rice dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Rice is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Rice seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Guerra for as long as he can get away with.

Rice's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Guerra has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Rio. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rice knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Guerra on the ground.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lincoln Rice.
Guerra tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Rice moves out of range of the body kick.
Guerra tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rice defends well and Guerra ends up having to push Rice into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Rice's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Guerra displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rice.
Sloppy strikes from Rice. Those never looked like landing.
Guerra fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Rice avoids it really well and circles away.
Rice throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guerra's waist but Guerra gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rice off to one side.
Guerra looks to land a combination but Rice avoids it well.
Guerra lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rice circles away quickly and effectively.

Rice drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Guerra looks winded!
Rice slows the pace down.

Rice wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guerra keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Guerra is looking to regain half guard here but Rice keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Guerra looks for a takedown but Rice sprawls well.

Guerra takes the fight into the clinch.
Rice putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Guerra in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Rice escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Guerra is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rice sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Rice takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

and Rice counters with a nice body shot.

Guerra fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rice, pushing him back against the cage.
Guerra is breathing heavily.

Rice escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rice really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Guerra takes a kick to the side of the head.
No joy there for Guerra, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Guerra clinches up with Rice and pushes him back against the cage.

Rice breaks from the clinch.
Carlos Guerra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guerra gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Rice fails with a takedown attempt.
Guerra throws a sloppy head kick
and Rice counters with a slapping leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Guerra.

Rice changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Guerra looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guerra tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Rice is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Guerra has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Rice is punishing Guerra with some ground and pound.
Rice will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rice controlling the position well here. Guerra rolled but Rice kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Rice is looking for the choke from the back position but Guerra is controlling his hands well.

Rice slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Guerra has Rice pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rice manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Rice breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Rice counters with a three punch combo that has Guerra backing up. Guerra nods at Rice to acknowledge the strikes.

and Rice counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Guerra!
Guerra takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee asks Rice politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Rice prefers to stall for the moment though.

Rice has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Rice decides to stand back up. Rice steps back and let's Guerra get back to his feet.

Rice gets tackled into the cage by Guerra. Guerra maintains the clinch.

Rice gets control of Guerra's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rice will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Rice is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Guerra is controlling him.

Guerra is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Guerra has gone for a leg lock! Rice slips out almost immediately though and dives into Guerra's guard.
Rice has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Guerra makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Guerra.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rice is looking to work some ground and pound but Guerra has wrist control.

Guerra is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rice, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
