Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matteo Vitali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wladimir Zaitzev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vitali comes to the cage accompanied by Amaranthe - The Nexus. Vitali is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matteo Vitali!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wladimir Zaitzev!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zaitzev closes the distance and clinches.
Vitali is breathing heavily.
Vitali can't find room to land a body shot as Zaitzev controls the action.
Zaitzev stalling in the clinch.
Vitali tries to work over Zaitzev's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
The referee calls for Zaitzev to work.

Zaitzev has Vitali pushed against the cage.

Zaitzev lands a takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Vitali preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Zaitzev postures up and lands a big shot to Vitali's brow.

Zaitzev drops back looking for a leg! Vitali is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vitali manages to kick Zaitzev off! Zaitzev jumps back into Vitali's guard.

Zaitzev drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Zaitzev jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've been hearing good reports from Vitali's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Zaitzev is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Zaitzev postures up in Vitali's guard and throws a big left but Vitali blocks it.
Zaitzev cracks Vitali with a solid left hand.

Zaitzev drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vitali looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vitali looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vitali!
Zaitzev is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Zaitzev tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Vitali is looking to take a break and control but Zaitzev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zaitzev is trying to improve his position.

Zaitzev gets back to half guard.
Zaitzev wants to get back to his feet.
Vitali is trying to control the action in half guard but Zaitzev is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Zaitzev wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zaitzev is trying to control but can't.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zaitzev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Zaitzev is trying to maintain the position but Vitali is very close to passing his half guard.
Vitali prevents Zaitzev from improving his position.
Zaitzev wants to get back to his feet.

Zaitzev manages to get to full guard.
Vitali trying to control the position from guard on top but Zaitzev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vitali throwing strikes but missing.

Zaitzev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vitali doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vitali manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Vitali keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Zaitzev's head.

Zaitzev is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Vitali defends well.

Zaitzev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vitali doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Zaitzev is tightening it up a little... Vitali has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Vitali reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Vitali taps out! Nice BJJ there by Zaitzev!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Wladimir Zaitzev!

During a confident post fight interview, Wladimir Zaitzev thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
