The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nguyen clinches up with Gutierrez and pushes him back against the cage.
Nguyen is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gutierrez can't fight it off and eventually Nguyen manages to take the fight to the floor. Gutierrez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Nguyen is looking to stand up but Gutierrez won't let him.
Gutierrez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Nguyen presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Gutierrez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nguyen walks away with a smile on his face. Gutierrez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Gutierrez has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Nguyen turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nguyen manages to end up in side control.
Gutierrez sneaks out the side door and pushes Nguyen away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Phong Nguyen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
