PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenton Stoll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vernon Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Vernon Cook was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kenton Stoll!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vernon Cook!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stoll tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cook defends well and Stoll ends up having to push Cook into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Stoll with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Stoll has Cook pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Stoll pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cook tumbling to the mat - Stoll dives into Cook's guard.
Cook keeping moving, preventing Stoll from controlling successfully.

Stoll wants to stand but Cook is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stoll is fighting to break Cook's control of his arms but Cook is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Stoll shoots in looking for a takedown but Cook manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stoll's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Cook lunges at Stoll with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Stoll's hand.

Cook stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cook wants it to stay on the feet.

Cook defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Stoll.
Stoll closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Cook slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Cook is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Stoll had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Stoll closes the distance and clinches up with Cook, looking for a takedown. Stoll pushes Cook against the cage but Cook circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

I was talking to Stoll's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Stoll is trying to drag Cook to the mat but Cook just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Cook just misses with a elbow thrown towards Stoll's brow.
Stoll tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cook just stands there and leans against the cage.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Cook.
Stoll has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cook avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Cook's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Cook darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Stoll's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Cook before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Vernon Cook!
After winning the bout, Vernon Cook thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
