Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Drunken Hermit!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ponjev is looking to clinch but Hermit is avoiding it.
Nice takedown defense from Hermit. No joy for Ponjev on that attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hermit.
Sloppy strikes there by Hermit.
Hermit working the body and head with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hermit working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ponjev has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Hermit feints and as Ponjev raises his hands in defense, Hermit changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hermit throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ponjev works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ponjev wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Ponjev is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hermit shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ponjev manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
