PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shadow Deathgrip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shadow Deathgrip looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shadow Deathgrip!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ron Paul!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deathgrip defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Paul.
Deathgrip throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Paul on the side of the head.
Ron Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Paul takes the fight into the clinch.
Deathgrip managing to block the knees to the body from Paul.
Paul lands a damaging elbow.
Paul tries to score a body lock takedown but Deathgrip shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Paul tries to land knees in the clinch but Deathgrip avoids the damage to the body.
Paul lands an elbow inside.
Paul manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Paul lands a knee to the body.
Deathgrip blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Deathgrip really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Deathgrip tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Deathgrip goes for a takedown in the clinch but Paul prevents it.
Deathgrip takes an elbow to the forehead.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Paul just misses with a elbow thrown towards Deathgrip's brow.
Paul is pressed up against the cage. Deathgrip has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Paul down to the mat. Paul avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shadow Deathgrip. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paul pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Paul tries for a takedown but Deathgrip sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Paul clinches.
Deathgrip tries to break the clinch but Paul is controlling the position.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Paul.
Paul lands an elbow inside.
Deathgrip tries for a takedown. No joy.
Paul lands a nice knee to the body.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Paul obliges.
Deathgrip is breathing heavily.
Paul comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Deathgrip works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Paul looking to hit a scissor sweep but Deathgrip is one step ahead there.

Paul is looking for a triangle but Deathgrip pushes his legs off easily.
Paul is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Paul is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Deathgrip is aware though and is defending well.

Deathgrip drops back, looking for a kneebar! Paul looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Paul looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Paul!

Paul tries to move to mount but Deathgrip blocks the move with his legs.
Deathgrip tries to improve position but can't.
Deathgrip sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Deathgrip is looking to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Deathgrip avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Paul.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Paul seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Deathgrip does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Paul dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Deathgrip darts in looking for a takedown but Paul gets double underhooks and turns Deathgrip into the cage.
Deathgrip takes an elbow to the forehead.

Paul tries to land a knee to the head but Deathgrip blocks with his arms.

Deathgrip tries to break free but Paul pushes him back against the cage.
Paul lands a good knee to the midsection. Deathgrip won't want to take too many of those.
Paul tries to throw a body punch but Deathgrip avoids it by throwing Paul back against the cage.
Paul is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Deathgrip is keeping busy.

Paul creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Deathgrip's defenses.
Deathgrip has Paul pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Paul manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Deathgrip will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Paul sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Deathgrip's guard.
Deathgrip is looking to escape.
Deathgrip has a hand on Paul's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Paul takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Paul is looking to work his way around to Deathgrip's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Paul is landing with some decent strikes but Deathgrip is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Paul manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Paul is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Deathgrip has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Paul looking for a guillotine from mount but Deathgrip is having none of it.

Paul wants to take his opponent's back but instead Deathgrip manages to regain half guard.
Paul is nestled in close to Deathgrip, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Paul frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Deathgrip is wriggling around trying to escape.

Ron Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Deathgrip wants to get back to his feet but Paul is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Paul is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Deathgrip is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Deathgrip has escaped and now he's on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Paul looking for a sweep. Not yet Paul, not yet.

Deathgrip avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Deathgrip throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Paul isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Deathgrip stacks Paul on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Deathgrip!

Paul takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Ron Paul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Paul has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
