PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Blue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Milo Retriever (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Retriever has chosen Paranoid as his entrance music. Ray Blue looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ray Blue!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Milo Retriever!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Retriever gets tackled into the cage by Blue. Blue maintains the clinch.
Blue looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Retriever drops down looking for an ankle pick but Blue pulls his leg out and moves away.

Retriever clinches with his opponent.
Blue avoids a wild elbow strike from Retriever.
Retriever throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Blue blocks it with crossed arms.

Retriever pulls Blue into guard.
Blue won't allow Retriever to sweep him here.
Blue stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Retriever swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Blue gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Retriever to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Retriever really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blue. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Retriever wants to pass the guard but Blue is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Blue looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Retriever looking to pass the guard.
Retriever keeps trying to improve his position.
Blue working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Retriever.

Blue is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Retriever defends well.
Blue will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Blue tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Retriever trying to control but Blue is working from the bottom.

Retriever thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Retriever trying to control the position from guard on top but Blue is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Blue is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Retriever is aware though and is defending well.
Retriever sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Retriever slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Blue dodges the ground and pound from Retriever.
Retriever misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Retriever tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Retriever has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ground and pound from Retriever seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Retriever tries for a kimura but Blue is defending well.

Retriever is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Blue is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Retriever thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The strikes coming from Retriever are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Retriever looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Blue gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Blue moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Blue looking for subs off his back but Retriever has passed one foot through into half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Retriever is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Blue to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Blue shrugs it off.

Retriever looking for a guillotine from mount but Blue is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Retriever tries for a takedown but Blue sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Retriever lands a head shot.
Ray Blue seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blue moves into the clinch.
Retriever is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Blue is defending well.
Retriever is trying to pull guard but Blue turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Our sources have told us that Blue has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.
Ray Blue has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Milo Retriever.

Retriever jumps guard.
Retriever keeping moving, preventing Blue from controlling successfully.

Retriever escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blue gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Retriever wants to sweep here but Blue controlling him for the moment.
Blue wanted to stand there but Retriever had control of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ray Blue wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Blue keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Retriever pushes Blue up against the cage in a clinch.
Retriever gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Retriever ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Retriever no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Retriever holds on and takes a little breather.
Retriever looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ray Blue.
Retriever has a takedown stuffed.

Blue has closed the distance and engaged Retriever in a clinch.

Retriever jumps guard.
Blue preventing the sweep.
Retriever pulls Blue in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ray Blue wasn't doing enough on the ground.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Retriever.

Retriever clinches.
Retriever pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Retriever pressing his opponent against the cage.

Blue has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Retriever clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Retriever is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Blue gets his way!
Blue doesn't have the hooks in and Retriever manages to turn into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Milo Retriever showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Retriever shoots in but no luck this time.

Retriever tries to pass the half guard into mount. Blue knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Blue wants to get back to full guard.
Retriever looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Blue with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Retriever is working for a kimura but Blue is defending it quite comfortably.
Retriever looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blue is pressing down on Retriever's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Blue avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Retriever in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Blue is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Blue looking for a sweep. Not yet Blue, not yet.
Milo Retriever has got the better of the ground game so far.

Retriever is working Blue over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Retriever drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Retriever jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Blue looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Retriever is defending well. Blue quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Retriever has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Blue celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
