Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anthony Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeff Smith!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Smith takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Anthony Pettis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pettis with a jab.
Pettis scores with a jab. Smith acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Nice shot lands for Pettis.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pettis tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.
Pettis can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Pettis is looking for a sweep.

Pettis manages to work his way to half guard, despite Smith's best efforts.
Pettis wants to control but Smith is keeping busy.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Smith is keen to just control but Pettis is a slippery customer.
Pettis wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pettis is trying to get back to full guard.

Smith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Smith looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pettis tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
Pettis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
Smith moves nicely into side control.
Smith advances to mount.

Smith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Pettis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Pettis and Smith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Pettis is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Pettis is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pettis is looking for a sweep.

Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Pettis looks to move to half guard but instead Smith has passed into mount! Damn!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pettis looks a forlorn figure.
Pettis manages to regain half guard. Good work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pettis trying to control from the bottom.
Pettis is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pettis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Pettis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well.
Smith stands up over Pettis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jeff Smith will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Pettis looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Smith is trying to work for a kimura but Pettis is defending well.

Smith is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pettis regains full guard. Nicely done.

Smith has gone for a leg lock! Pettis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Smith's guard.
Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Pettis!
Pettis is working to get back to half guard.
Pettis takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Smith fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Smith looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith goes for an armbar but Pettis turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Pettis.
Pettis trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pettis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

Smith throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Pettis trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith keeps trying to improve his position.
Pettis wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pettis's guard.

Pettis is looking for a triangle here but Smith uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Pettis struggling a bit here.

Pettis is trying to get back to half guard.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Pettis is looking to reverse the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith has an Americana. Pettis didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Smith is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Smith hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jeff Smith!
