PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carrol Witt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Slate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adam Slate looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Carrol Witt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Slate!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Witt with that takedown attempt.
Slate darts in looking for a takedown but Witt gets double underhooks and turns Slate into the cage.

Slate manages to break the clinch.
Slate's coach down at Rage Fighting Fit Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Slate's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Witt.
Slate looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Witt is fending him off so far but Slate persists. Nope, Witt circles away and we're back to standing.
Adam Slate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Slate feints and as Witt raises his hands in defense, Slate changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Witt controls Slate momentarily but Slate frees himself.
Slate trying to control the position from guard on top but Witt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Slate drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Witt manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Slate has Witt in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Witt slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slate utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Slate can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Witt controls the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Slate closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Witt to the mat! Witt manages to get full guard.

Witt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slate swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Carrol Witt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Slate.
Witt shoots for a takedown but Slate saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Slate looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Witt fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Slate sprawls well initially but Witt persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Witt is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Witt's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That was a close round but I would say that Carrol Witt will probably get the nod.

Witt shoots and misses

and Slate counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Slate.

Witt is working an open guard so Slate takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
No luck for Witt with that takedown attempt.
Witt will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Slate drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Horrible takedown by Slate or perhaps it was just good defense by Witt which made him look bad.
Slate looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Witt tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Slate defends well and Witt ends up having to push Slate into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Witt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Witt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Slate tries to avoid it but Witt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Slate to the ground. Slate escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Slate is trying hard to land a takedown here. Witt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Witt looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Slate is fending him off so far but Witt persists. Nope, Slate circles away and we're back to standing.

Slate throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Witt was covering up waiting for the punch and Slate finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Witt stuffs the takedown attempt from Slate. Slate gets slowly back to his feet.
Witt closes this distance looking for a takedown but Slate circles away.
Slate tries to score a power double leg takedown but Witt sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Slate somewhat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Witt drives through with a takedown into Slate's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Slate shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Witt is trying to defend but Slate finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Slate tries to pass the half guard into mount. Witt knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Witt moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Slate wants to control from the top but Witt keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Witt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Slate on the ground.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Adam Slate hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Slate fails with a takedown attempt.
Witt moves in looking to clinch but Slate pushes him off.
Slate fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Witt avoids it really well and circles away.

Witt closes the distance and pushes Slate back into the cage.

Witt tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Slate smiles and moves away.
Slate shoots for a double leg takedown but Witt sprawls well. He's pushed Slate's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carrol Witt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Slate.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee asks Slate politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Slate prefers to stall for the moment though.

I think Slate has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
