PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnathon Puckett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Hunstados (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Roberto Hunstados was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johnathon Puckett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Hunstados!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunstados swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hunstados shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Puckett sprawls well. Puckett wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hunstados gets slowly back to his feet.

Puckett scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hunstados looks winded!
Puckett tries to score with some ground and pound. Hunstados controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Puckett misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Puckett working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
You can see the frustration on Hunstados's face as Puckett controls the position.
Puckett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Puckett tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Puckett has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Puckett happy to just control the position for now.
Hunstados parries the strikes from Puckett easily there. Puckett is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hunstados to escape.
Puckett has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Puckett has control of Hunstados's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hunstados regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Hunstados is looking to improve his position but Puckett isn't that keen on the idea.
Puckett knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunstados on the ground.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Puckett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hunstados has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.

Puckett's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hunstados shoots in looking for a takedown. Puckett tries to sprawl out of it but Hunstados keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Puckett manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hunstados is trying to push Puckett away but Puckett has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hunstados wants to break free but Puckett has control.
Hunstados gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Puckett.

Puckett manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hunstados tries to stand but Puckett is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Puckett has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Hunstados has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Puckett breaks the clinch.

Hunstados fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Puckett shoots in looking for a takedown but Hunstados manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Puckett's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Puckett's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Puckett scores with a head kick. Hunstados tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Puckett drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hunstados pulls his leg out and moves away.

Roberto Hunstados seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunstados fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Puckett avoids it really well and circles away.

Hunstados gets caught flat footed, as Puckett shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Puckett is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hunstados is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hunstados has escaped and now he's on top!

Puckett is pulling down on Hunstados's head. It's preventing any offense from Hunstados, at least for the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hunstados is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Well Puckett has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
