PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connie Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Mmachi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mmachi has chosen Droideka- Get Hyper as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Chris Mmachi is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Chad Campbell and Reed Andrews.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mmachi is looking to clinch.
Mmachi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mmachi shoots in for a double leg but Daniels sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mmachi wants to clinch but Daniels slips to the side
and Daniels counters with a body kick that stops Mmachi in his tracks momentarily.
Mmachi cracks the inside of Daniels's front leg.
Mmachi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Daniels as he avoids it easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chris Mmachi wasn't active enough on the ground.

Mmachi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Daniels but Daniels pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Mmachi tries to score a body lock takedown but Daniels shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Daniels ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Daniels no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Daniels is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Daniels has his foot on Mmachi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mmachi works his way back into a safe position though.

Daniels working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mmachi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mmachi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mmachi working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Daniels takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Mmachi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Daniels sprawls well. Daniels wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mmachi gets slowly back to his feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Connie Daniels will probably get the nod.

Daniels could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chris Mmachi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Mmachi is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Daniels is keeping busy.
Mmachi has Daniels pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Daniels manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mmachi jumps guard but Daniels stands there with Mmachi around his waist. Mmachi gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Mmachi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Daniels is working away from the top position though.

Mmachi is kicking away at Daniels from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Daniels grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Mmachi trying to push Daniels off... Mmachi taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.
