Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rodrigo Palmares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mystic Zen!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palmares just misses with a punch to the body.
Palmares lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Palmares throws a solid leg kick but Zen takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Palmares.
Palmares misses with a low kick.
Palmares throws a jab but it's blocked by Zen.
Palmares bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Palmares swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Zen.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Palmares tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Palmares keeps working.
Palmares is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Zen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Zen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Palmares's head.
The fighters are battling for position here. Palmares manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Palmares preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Palmares looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Zen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Zen wants to control from the top but Palmares keeps moving.

Palmares is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zen is aware though and is defending well.
Zen stays in close to Palmares's body and controls the position.
Zen postures up.
Palmares tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Palmares is keeping the position for now.
Zen trying to control the position from guard on top but Palmares is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Palmares throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Palmares has his foot on Zen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zen works his way back into a safe position though.

Zen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Palmares throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Zen escapes and throws Palmares's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
You can see the frustration on Palmares's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Palmares tries to bench press Zen off him but Zen keeps the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Palmares is trying to improve his position.
Zen cracks Palmares with a big right hand but Palmares just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Zen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Palmares is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Zen wants to control but Palmares is keeping him busy.

Palmares trying to remain calm as Zen controls from the top position.

Palmares manages to work his way to half guard, despite Zen's best efforts.
Palmares is pressing down on Zen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Zen engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Palmares utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Palmares looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zen is one step ahead there.

Zen throws a sloppy strike and Palmares has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Zen is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Palmares!

An out of breath Rodrigo Palmares thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
