PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dillon Branco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Griffon Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffon Hunt is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dillon Branco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Griffon Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Branco tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hunt swivels and escapes.
Branco tries to clinch there but Hunt circles away.

Branco drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hunt keeping full guard, as Branco tries to pass.
Branco pushes down on Hunt's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Branco keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Branco lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Branco thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hunt's head.
Branco is thwarting Hunt's attempts to control the position.
Hunt regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Branco passes into half guard.
Branco stalling.
Branco prevents Hunt from improving his position.
Hunt missing with punches from the bottom.
Branco content to control rather than advance.
Hunt tries to get to full guard but Branco has control of the leg.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Branco winds up and cracks Hunt with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Branco is taking a breather. Hunt says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Branco lands a heavy elbow.
Branco is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hunt can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Branco tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


No joy there for Branco, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Hunt slips a jab and a cross from Branco.
Branco is looking to clinch.
Hunt throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Branco misses with a series of wild punches.
Branco closes the distance and clinches up with Hunt, looking for a takedown. Branco pushes Hunt against the cage but Hunt circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hunt swats away the attempt to clinch by Branco.

Hunt escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Branco gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hunt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Branco doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Branco manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Branco stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunt swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hunt looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Branco advances to half guard.

Branco decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Branco lets loose with a powerful body kick. Hunt will feel that in the morning.
Branco shoots in looking for a takedown. Hunt tries to sprawl out of it but Branco keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hunt manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dillon Branco. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Branco is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hunt.

Hunt throws a nice looking combination but Branco bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dillon Branco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hunt is on top in guard.

Horrible takedown by Branco or perhaps it was just good defense by Hunt which made him look bad.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Branco changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hunt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Dillon Branco overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dillon Branco.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Branco, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
