PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Billy Rumble (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dunn has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Billy Rumble had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Billy Rumble!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Justin Dunn!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rumble scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Rumble tries to advance to mount but Dunn instead regains half guard.
Dunn is not content to let Rumble control the position.
Rumble wants to free his trapped foot but Dunn is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Rumble sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dunn defending well though.
Dunn makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dunn.
Rumble wants to control from the top but Dunn keeps moving.
Dunn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rumble is in close to Dunn's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Dunn pushes Rumble off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Dunn closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Rumble misses with some punches.
Rumble tries to circle away but Dunn has him pinned against the cage.
Dunn fails to pull guard.
Rumble is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Dunn breaks from the clinch.
Dunn looks winded!
Rumble closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dunn circles away.
Dunn shoots in but no luck this time.
Nice body punch from Rumble.
Rumble shoots in but Dunn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
No joy there for Rumble, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dunn fails with a takedown attempt.
Billy Rumble has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Justin Dunn.
Dunn throws a sloppy head kick
and Rumble counters with a straight right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice combination there by Rumble.
Rumble thuds his shin into the meat of Dunn's side.
Rumble pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Dunn back to the cage. Rumble follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Dunn rushes Rumble and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rumble lands a damaging elbow.
Dunn jumps guard but Rumble turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Rumble breaks from the clinch.

Rumble shoots in and bounces Dunn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dunn is trying to keep Rumble in close.
Rumble will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rumble thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Dunn will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Dunn controls Rumble momentarily but Rumble frees himself.
Dunn keeping moving, preventing Rumble from controlling successfully.

Rumble knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dunn on the ground.

Rumble wants to control from the top but Dunn keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Dunn looking for a guillotine here but Rumble defends easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rumble stands up from Dunn's guard - Rumble perhaps looking for a knockout.
Dunn avoids the head kick by Rumble.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dunn shoots in and drives through. Rumble sprawls well.
Dunn keeps the fight on the outside.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Dunn lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Rumble has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Rumble and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Dunn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rumble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Billy Rumble will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dunn throws a right and a left that both miss.

Rumble gets caught napping as Dunn dives in and scores a takedown. Rumble manages to retain guard.

Dunn drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rumble dives on top into guard.
Rumble really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rumble is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Rumble drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rumble jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rumble pushes down on Dunn's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Dunn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Dunn tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dunn has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Rumble is on him like a limpet, forcing Dunn back against the cage.

Rumble's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rumble looks for a takedown but Dunn sprawls well.

Dunn forces Rumble back against the cage and clinches.
Dunn is looking to take this one to the mat.
Rumble has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Rumble throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dunn blocks it with crossed arms.
Dunn is trying to push Rumble away but Rumble has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Dunn fails to pull guard.

Rumble breaks from the clinch.
Rumble fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dunn avoids it really well and circles away.
Rumble takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Dunn sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Sloppy strikes from Dunn. Those never looked like landing.
Rumble thuds his shin into the meat of Dunn's side.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dunn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dunn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rumble has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dunn is proving hard to escape from.
Dunn with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Rumble can't handle though.

Dunn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rumble throws an elbow that misses. Dunn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rumble's guard. Nice move by Dunn!

Dunn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That was a close second round but I would say that Billy Rumble will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Justin Dunn has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Dunn is trying to break the clinch but Rumble has him pressed against the cage.

Rumble breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Dunn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rumble as he avoids it easily.
Rumble stalks Dunn and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Dunn's face. Dunn staggers backwards, shaken.
Rumble darts in looking for a takedown but Dunn gets double underhooks and turns Rumble into the cage.
Dunn blocks a body shot from Rumble.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rumble swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rumble tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Dunn's elbow.
Rumble throws a punch but it's blocked by Dunn.

Dunn prevents a body shot from Rumble.

Dunn breaks the clinch.

Dunn scores with a takedown into Rumble's guard.
Rumble is looking to stand up but Dunn isn't so interested in that idea.
Dunn is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Justin Dunn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rumble is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Dunn dives into side control.

Dunn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dunn prevents Rumble from escaping the position.

Dunn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rumble keeps working.
Rumble is pushing Dunn's head away, looking to escape. Dunn manages to hold on to the position though.
Rumble tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Dunn is working for a rear naked choke. Rumble is not defending it well and Dunn has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Rumble refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Rumble's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Justin Dunn!
