PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Mullings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandre Sosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Sosa's choice of entrance music: Jim Johnston-Priceless. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Andrew Mullings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alexandre Sosa!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sosa closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sosa lands in his opponent's guard.

Mullings throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Sosa lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Mullings manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sosa manages to get himself to full guard.
Mullings wants to control from the top but Sosa keeps moving.

Sosa is looking for a triangle but Mullings pushes his legs off easily.
Sosa throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Mullings throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mullings pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sosa is keeping the position for now.

Sosa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mullings doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mullings manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Sosa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mullings manages to get himself to full guard.
Sosa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mullings swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mullings has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sosa is working away from the top position though.

Mullings tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Sosa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mullings knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Mullings's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mullings is looking to regain half guard here but Sosa keeps moving and retains side control.

Sosa goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Mullings has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sosa but great work by Mullings.

Mullings tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Sosa tries to buck Mullings off but Mullings is having none of it.
Sosa manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mullings's best efforts.
Mullings is looking to advance position but Sosa won't allow it.
Mullings wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sosa keeps working.
Mullings is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sosa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mullings tries to pass to full mount but Sosa defends it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Sosa fails with the takedown.
Alexandre Sosa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mullings decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Sosa is staying active underneath Mullings, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mullings stands up out of the half guard.
Sosa tries for a takedown but Mullings circles away easily

and Mullings counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sosa!

Mullings decides to stand up.
Sosa has his takedown stuffed

and Mullings counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Andrew Mullings has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexandre Sosa.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sosa moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Sosa looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mullings puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sosa manages to get to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sosa is on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andrew Mullings will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mullings fails with the takedown

and Sosa counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Mullings is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sosa stands and throws Mullings's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Mullings tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sosa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mullings is working hard here to advance position.

Sosa is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Mullings is trying to escape and Sosa transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Mullings is forced to tap! Nice work there by Sosa! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alexandre Sosa!
