PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Monte Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trynda Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk has chosen Perkele - Heart full of pride as his entrance music. Trynda Hawk will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Monte Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Trynda Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Holt fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Hawk rushes Holt and presses him up against the cage.
Hawk looking to throw knees to the head but Holt is blocking nicely.
Holt is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Hawk fails to pull guard.
Holt is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Holt is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hawk to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monte Holt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Holt goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hawk prevents it.
Hawk misses with a knee strike.

Holt has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hawk after a bit of a struggle.
Hawk using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Holt has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Holt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hawk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Holt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hawk tries to avoid it but Holt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hawk to the ground. Hawk escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hawk leaves Holt with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Hawk or perhaps it was just good defense by Holt which made him look bad.
Holt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Holt shoots in looking for a takedown. Hawk tries to sprawl out of it but Holt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hawk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Trynda Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hawk closes the distance but Holt moves to the side
and Holt counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Hawk moves into the clinch.
Hawk displaying some good clinch control by pressing Holt up against the cage.

Hawk pulls guard effortlessly.

Hawk is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hawk looking for a sweep. Not yet Hawk, not yet.
Hawk not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Holt preventing the sweep.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hawk holds on and takes a little breather.
Hawk working a defensive guard but Holt passes into half guard.

Holt prevents Hawk from standing back up.
Holt controlling the pace.
Hawk looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hawk is looking for a sweep. Holt is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hawk keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Holt will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A combination from Hawk does no damage.

Holt throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hawk.


It looks like Trynda Hawk has been cut.
Hawk misses with a low kick.

Hawk clinches up with Holt and pushes him back against the cage.
Hawk lands a nice elbow.
Holt taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Holt misses with a short punch on the inside.
Holt throws a head punch that misses.
Holt tries for a takedown. No joy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holt tries to pull guard but Hawk forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hawk shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hawk showed some decent athleticism there.
Hawk prevents Holt from improving his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hawk trying to control from half guard but Holt is working away.
Holt keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hawk is looking to take a break and control but Holt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hawk is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Trynda Hawk wasn't active enough on the ground.
Holt shoots in looking for a takedown. Hawk tries to sprawl out of it but Holt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hawk manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Holt looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hawk is fending him off so far but Holt persists. Nope, Hawk circles away and we're back to standing.

Hawk ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hawk no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Holt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Trynda Hawk.
Hawk is looking to clinch.

Holt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hawk wants to get back to his feet.

Holt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hawk keeps working.
Hawk tries to get to full guard but Holt has control of the leg.

Holt throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hawk dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Holt circles away from the clinch attempt.
Holt will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hawk throws a head kick but Holt moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trynda Hawk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Hawk misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hawk tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Holt swivels and escapes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hawk looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hawk fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Holt has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Holt tries to close the distance and clinch but Hawk swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Monte Holt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Trynda Hawk.
Holt's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hawk under the eye.
Hawk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hawk moves to clinch but Holt breaks away

and Holt counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Holt.

Hawk tries to pull guard but Holt forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Holt drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hawk gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Holt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Holt blocks a head kick by Hawk.
Hawk tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Holt defends well and Hawk ends up having to push Holt into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Hawk tries to work over Holt's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
The referee calls for Holt to work.
Hawk prevents a takedown attempt there.

Hawk is pressed up against the cage. Holt has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hawk down to the mat. Hawk avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Holt shoots in for a double leg but Hawk sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hawk tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Holt holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Hawk pushes Holt back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Holt tries for a takedown but Hawk manages to get underhooks.
Holt tries to pull guard but Hawk forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Hawk goes for a takedown attempt but Holt pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Holt fails with the takedown.

Hawk gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Hawk jumps guard but Holt turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Holt drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hawk gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Hawk escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hawk looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Holt is fending him off so far but Hawk persists. Nope, Holt circles away and we're back to standing.
Hawk looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Holt counters with a series of strikes. Hawk will be more careful next time no doubt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Holt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hawk's waist but Hawk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Holt off to one side.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Trynda Hawk.
Well Hawk has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
