PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reuben Tanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devin Miles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Reuben Tanner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Miles!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miles shoots in looking for a takedown but Tanner manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Miles's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Miles looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Miles slaps away a takedown attempt from Tanner, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Tanner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Miles on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Tanner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Miles tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Tanner presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Poor strikes thrown by Tanner there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Tanner has control of Miles's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Miles regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Tanner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Tanner's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Reuben Tanner wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

It looks like Devin Miles has been cut.

Tanner throws a nice head kick!
Tanner shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Miles pinned against the cage. Miles gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Tanner moves into the clinch.
Tanner stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Tanner is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Miles can't fight it off and eventually Tanner manages to take the fight to the floor. Miles looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tanner stands up and waves to Miles to follow him.

Miles slaps away a takedown attempt from Tanner, before circling back to the center of the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown but Miles shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tanner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Miles's waist but Miles gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tanner off to one side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Miles shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tanner sprawls well. Tanner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Miles gets slowly back to his feet.
Tanner throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Tanner forces Miles back against the cage and clinches.

Tanner has Miles pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Miles manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Miles is trying to break the clinch but Tanner has him pressed against the cage.

Tanner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Miles. No joy for Tanner on that attempt.

Miles stuffs the takedown attempt from Tanner. Tanner gets slowly back to his feet.
Tanner throws a leg kick which misses Miles's front leg but catches the back leg as Miles tries to avoid it.
Tanner lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Miles takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The crowd cheers as Tanner lands an impressive looking overhand right. Miles doesn't seem phased though.
Miles takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Tanner shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tanner is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Tanner lands a big elbow.
Miles felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Tanner gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Tanner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Miles as he avoids it easily.
Miles looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tanner fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Miles avoids it really well and circles away.
Tanner shoots for a double leg takedown but Miles sprawls well. He's pushed Tanner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Miles tries to clinch
and Tanner counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Tanner clinches up with Miles and pushes him back against the cage.

Tanner manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Reuben Tanner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tanner is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Miles can do to turn this around?
Tanner is working for takedown but Miles is calmly controlling the position for now.

Miles gets caught flat footed, as Tanner shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tanner is pushing down on Miles's leg trying to pass to half guard. Miles is fighting to maintain full guard but Tanner has managed to sneak the leg through.

Miles steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tanner. That one must have hurt.
Tanner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Miles as he avoids it easily.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Tanner - that will leave a mark!
Tanner shoots in for a takedown but Miles shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Miles shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tanner is trying to defend but Miles finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Miles trying to control but Tanner is working from the bottom.
Miles wants to get up but he can't break Tanner's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tanner working for a triangle but Miles defends it easily.
Tanner has control of Miles's left arm, preventing Miles from doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Reuben Tanner showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Tanner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
