Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Woodrow Blackwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Woodward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Woodrow Blackwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Woodward!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woodward tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Blackwell defends well and Woodward ends up having to push Blackwell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Blackwell is trying to break the clinch but Woodward is controlling him.
Woodward is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Blackwell is defending well.
Nice body punch from Blackwell.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Blackwell takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Woodward is pressed up against the cage. Blackwell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Woodward down to the mat. Woodward avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Blackwell throws a sloppy head kick and Woodward moves out of range easily.

Woodward shoots in and gets a takedown into Blackwell's guard.
Woodward pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Blackwell is keeping the position for now.
Woodward wants to stand but Blackwell is controlling his posture from full guard.
Blackwell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Woodward controls the pace.

Blackwell scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Blackwell takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Woodward tries to close the distance and clinch up but Blackwell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Blackwell tries to clinch there but Woodward circles away.
Woodward looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blackwell is fending him off so far but Woodward persists. Nope, Blackwell circles away and we're back to standing.
Woodrow Blackwell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Woodward.
Blackwell throws a sloppy head kick and Woodward moves out of range easily.
Woodward shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Blackwell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Woodward throws a shot from downtown. Blackwell moves away and avoids it.

Blackwell gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Woodward pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Blackwell shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Woodward as he jumps to the side.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Blackwell doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Woodward counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Blackwell thinking.
Blackwell dives in and grabs Woodward's left leg, looking for a takedown. Woodward pushes down on Blackwell's head and hops out.
Woodward shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Blackwell defends it nicely.
Blackwell doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Woodward counters by moving into the clinch.
Blackwell is breathing heavily.
Blackwell goes for a takedown attempt but Woodward pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Woodward is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Blackwell's half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woodward slows the pace down in half guard.
Woodward is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Blackwell wants to control but Woodward is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Woodward wants to take a breather but Blackwell is having none of it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Woodward connects with a nice short shot to Blackwell's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blackwell wants to control but Woodward is keeping busy.
Woodward missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Blackwell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Woodward looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Blackwell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woodward not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Woodward trying to advance position but Blackwell counters by regaining guard.
Woodward controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Woodward trying to control the position from guard on top but Blackwell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Woodward not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Blackwell keeping moving, preventing Woodward from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Woodward dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Woodward shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Woodward looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Blackwell keeping hold of Woodward's head, controlling as best he can.

Woodward looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Blackwell tries to roll over but Woodward keeps him under control.

Woodward tries to pass the half guard into mount. Blackwell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Well, if Woodward is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Blackwell is looking to improve his position.
Woodward tries to stand and escape but Blackwell actually recovers to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Woodward is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Blackwell is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Blackwell has escaped and now he's on top!
Woodward is trying to keep Blackwell in close.
Woodward pulls Blackwell in close to prevent any damage.
Blackwell wants to stand and escape but instead Woodward has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woodward wants to control from the top but Blackwell keeps moving.

Woodward gets to his feet. Blackwell looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Blackwell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Woodward is trying to pull guard but Blackwell turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Blackwell is trying to break free.
Woodward is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Blackwell to keep the fight standing.
Woodward misses with a punch on the inside.
Blackwell tries for a takedown but Woodward manages to get underhooks.

Woodward breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blackwell fails with a takedown attempt.
Blackwell wants to clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Woodward.
Woodrow Blackwell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Woodward.
Both fighters circling a little - Woodward finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Blackwell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Woodward pulls guard successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Blackwell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Woodward swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Woodward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Blackwell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


A combination from Blackwell does no damage.
Blackwell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Woodward swivels and escapes.
Blackwell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Blackwell moves in looking to clinch but Woodward pushes him off.
Blackwell shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Woodward counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Woodrow Blackwell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Woodward sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Blackwell's guard.
Woodward wants to advance to full mount but Blackwell doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Woodward controlling from the top position.
Woodward trying to control the position from guard on top but Blackwell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Woodward not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ryan Woodward hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Blackwell slips a jab from Woodward.
Woodrow Blackwell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Woodward dives in and scores a takedown into Blackwell's guard.
Blackwell looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Woodward puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Woodward decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Woodward doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Blackwell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Woodward thinking.
Woodward misses the shot to the body.
Blackwell swings and misses with a hook to the body.

No luck for Blackwell with that takedown attempt.
Woodward shoots in looking for a takedown. Blackwell tries to sprawl out of it but Woodward keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Blackwell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Blackwell shoots in and drives through. Woodward sprawls well.

Blackwell tries to sprawl but Woodward drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Woodward lands a nice short elbow.
Blackwell trying to hold on to Woodward's head to control him but Woodward postures up.
Woodward lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Woodward thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Blackwell's head.
Woodrow Blackwell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ryan Woodward is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
