PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyrone Bate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns has chosen Speech Cobras as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brad Burns!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bate lands a slapping body shot.
Burns connects with a solid leg kick.
Burns uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bate.
Bate misses the body punch
and Burns counters with a low kick, right behind Bate 's knee.
Burns avoids the body shot from Bate.
Bate throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Burns sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bate misses with a lunging right hand
and Burns counters with an outside leg kick.
Bate swings widly with a right hand
and Burns counters with a nice uppercut.
Burns moves out of range as Bate strikes.
Bate shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Burns sprawls well. Burns wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bate gets slowly back to his feet.
Burns is looking to clinch but Bate is avoiding it.

Bate throws an overhand right that lands on Burns's shoulder, as Burns tries to avoid the shot.
Brad Burns is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bate listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Burns keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Burns ducks under a wild hook from Bate.
Bate throws a lazy uppercut

and Burns counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Burns pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bate swings away with a body shot that misses
and Burns counters with an inside leg kick.
Burns tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bate manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Burns lands a nice leg kick that just misses Bate's sensitive parts.

Bate misses with a jab to the body
and Burns counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Burns tries to bum rush Bate with a series of wild strikes but Bate uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bate misses the body punch
and Burns counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Horrible takedown by Bate or perhaps it was just good defense by Burns which made him look bad.
Burns looks to score with a jab to the body but Bate is just out of range.
Bate connects with a crisp jab.
Burns uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bate.
Bate jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Bate dives in for a single leg takedown but Burns sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyrone Bate. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Burns tries to throw a body punch but Bate avoids it by throwing Burns back against the cage.

Burns tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Bate gets through Burns's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Bate goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Burns doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Burns tries to work over Bate's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Bate breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bate misses with an uppercut
and Burns counters with a stiff right hand.
Burns is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bate takes a swing at Burns's ribcage but misses.
Burns keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Bate misses with a hook. Burns ducked under it nicely.
Burns misses with a wild combination.
Bate lands with a shot to the body.
Bate misses with a body shot
and Burns counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bate blocks a head kick by Burns.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Burns tries to land a front kick but Bate steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brad Burns will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Nice defenses there by Burns.
Burns uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bate.

and Burns counters with a nice uppercut.

Burns stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Burns wants it to stay on the feet.
Burns takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Burns shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Burns slips a jab from Bate.
Bate throws the left hand but Burns avoids the punch easily.
Burns ducks under a wild hook from Bate.

Bate ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Burns moves away.
Bate looks to land a combination but Burns avoids it well.
Burns lands with an overhand left.
Bate looks to score with a jab to the body but Burns is just out of range.
Burns looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Bate misses with a body shot
and Burns counters with a leg kick.
Burns bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Bate connects with a looping right hand.
Burns missing with a left hand there. Bate was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Burns takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Burns is looking to clinch but Bate is avoiding it.

Bate scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bate is working to tighten his grip on Burns's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Burns has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Bate is really squeezing tight and eventually Burns passes out! Bate breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Tyrone Bate!

In his post fight interview, Tyrone Bate started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
