Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Quentin Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shaun Russell!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russell throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Russell throws a looping overhand right but Costa ducks down to avoid it.
Costa uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Russell.
Costa has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Russian Top Team (elite gym) in the buildup to the fight.
Costa has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Russell finds it's way round the side to connect with Costa's head.
Costa tries to bum rush Russell with a series of wild strikes but Russell uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Costa cracks Russell with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Russell bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Russell throws a poor cross that misses

and Costa counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Russell!
This has been an exciting period of action!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Costa cracks Russell with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Costa fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The strikes coming from Costa are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Costa throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Russell is looking for a sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Russell is not content to let Costa control the position.
Costa throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Russell is trying to control Costa's posture but Costa avoids it.
Costa misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Russell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Costa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Costa is trying to get an arm triangle but Russell is defending well.
Russell tries to buck Costa off but Costa is having none of it.
Costa tries to score with some ground and pound. Russell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Costa tries for a kimura but Russell is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Russell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Russell gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Costa wants to pass to mount but Russell is defending the position.

Costa is working for a kimura but Russell is defending it quite comfortably.
Costa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Russell wants to improve his position but Costa is controlling well.
Nice strikes from Costa there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Russell controlling the position well.
Russell is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Costa scores with a couple of nice shots.
Russell trying to hold on to Costa's head to control him but Costa postures up.
Russell is trying to get back to full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Russell keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Russell avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Costa.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quentin Costa dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Russell throws a hook but Costa avoids it easily.
Costa looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Russell lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Russell.


It looks like Quentin Costa has been cut.
Russell pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Russell throws a nice inside leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Costa is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


Costa is rocked!
Costa is aggressively charging in as Russell backs up avoiding any damage. Russell tosses out a jab and Costa runs right into it face first! Costa is out cold! Russell dropped down on all fours and is barking in Costa's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shaun Russell!
An out of breath Shaun Russell thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
