PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Coogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Who - Baba O'Riley kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Rob Coogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Craig David!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
David cracks the inside of Coogan's front leg.
David wants to clinch but Coogan slips to the side
and Coogan counters with a straight right hand.
Good leg kick by David there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
David misses with an uppercut. Coogan saw that one coming.
David fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Coogan checks it well.
David throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
David throws out a leg kick but Coogan moves out of range and David only half commits.
David tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
David takes a swing at Coogan's ribcage but misses.
David looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Coogan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. David is trying to defend but Coogan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coogan wants to control but David is keeping him busy.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Well, if Coogan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
David is holding on to half guard well.

David keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
David manages to get to full guard.
Coogan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
David manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
David wants to control the pace but Coogan is squirming around nicely.

David unloads with some shots from mount but Coogan bucks and avoids them well.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

David breaks from Coogan's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Coogan is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Coogan is in a horrible position here. David smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Coogan is looking to get to half guard.
David thowing shots but they're missing.
Coogan wants to control but David is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Coogan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Coogan is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Allstars MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Coogan gets back to full guard.
Coogan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in David's guard.

Coogan is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Coogan postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! David is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Coogan, into his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Coogan is on top in guard.
David wants to sweep but no luck.
Coogan postures up in David's guard and throws a big left but David blocks it.
Coogan slips nicely into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Coogan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and David defends it well.

Coogan wants to work for an arm triangle but David is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

David desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
David is looking for a sweep. Coogan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig David dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


David lands a jab.
Coogan shoots for a takedown but David saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Coogan shoots for a double leg takedown but David sprawls well. He's pushed Coogan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
David throws a head kick that misses.
David moves out of range of the body kick from Coogan.
David tests Coogan's chin there with a solid looking shot.
David misses with a wild body shot.
David throws a leg kick that misses.
David scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
David throws a leg kick but Coogan sees it coming and checks it nicely.
David will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
David is looking to score with low kicks.
Coogan keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

David tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
David throws a low kick but Coogan moves out of range easily.
David thumps Coogan with a low kick.
Craig David seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coogan checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Coogan shoots in for a double leg but David sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rob Coogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
David misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A leg kick checked by Coogan.
Coogan wants to clinch up but David keeps it at a distance.
Coogan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. David sees it coming and avoids it easily.

David closes the distance and clinches.

Coogan is fighting off a takedown attempt but David is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Coogan to the mat. Coogan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Coogan wants to sweep here but David controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
David forces his way into half guard.
Nice strikes from David there.
Coogan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
David scoring with punches to the head and body.
David is looking to advance position but Coogan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Coogan throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! David has his hands clasped together but Coogan breaks the hold and David is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Coogan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rob Coogan!
After winning the bout, Rob Coogan thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
