PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lenard Madden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grasso Debussi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Debussi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Debussi fails with a takedown attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Debussi as Madden shoots in.
Debussi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Madden pinned against the cage. Madden gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Madden tries to score a power double leg takedown but Debussi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Madden somewhat.
Madden really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Madden shoots in for a takedown but Debussi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lenard Madden. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Debussi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Madden but Madden pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Madden manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Debussi on his heels. He'll look to pass Debussi's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Debussi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Madden slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Debussi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Madden defends well.
Madden wants to pass the guard but Debussi is keeping the position.

Madden seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Madden throws a body punch but Debussi moves out of range.

Debussi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Madden to the ground. Debussi is now in Madden's guard.

Madden wants to sweep but no luck.

Debussi wants to pass the guard but Madden is keeping the position.
Madden manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Debussi tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Debussi is still trying to improve position.
Madden tries to control but Debussi wriggling away.
Madden takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lenard Madden dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Madden shoots in looking for a takedown. Debussi tries to sprawl out of it but Madden keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Debussi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Madden closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Debussi did well to prevent Madden getting side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Debussi tries to kick Madden off but Madden keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Madden is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lenard Madden.

Madden fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Debussi sprawls well initially but Madden persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Debussi is defending against the submission attempts here by Madden.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Madden seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Madden is nestled in close to Debussi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Madden wants to control but Debussi is keeping him busy.

Madden is working for a kimura but Debussi is defending it quite comfortably.
Debussi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Madden is working away from the top position though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Madden tries to close the distance and clinch but Debussi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Debussi is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Debussi is trying to maintain the position but Madden is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Grasso Debussi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Madden shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Debussi's guard.
Madden tries to stand but Debussi is controlling from the bottom.

Madden not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Lenard Madden just wasn't active enough.
Madden shoots in for a double leg but Debussi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Madden changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Debussi tries to avoid it but Madden manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Debussi to the ground. Debussi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Madden changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Debussi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Debussi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Madden wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Debussi manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Debussi is pressing down on Madden's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Debussi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Madden manages to get himself to full guard.
Madden is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Madden is trying to control the position from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Madden is on top in guard.
Madden is in close to Debussi's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Debussi wriggles free and stands up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Debussi is looking to clinch but Madden is avoiding it.
Grasso Debussi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lenard Madden is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Debussi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Madden's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lenard Madden.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Madden, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
