Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Muerte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Cormier!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muerte fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cormier bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Muerte's head backwards.
Cormier defending well as Muerte loads up on a big left hand.
Muerte takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Muerte moves out of range as Cormier strikes.
Cormier misses with a left hand

and Muerte counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cormier's guard now.
Cormier tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Muerte content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Muerte advances to half guard.
Muerte trying to control from half guard but Cormier is working away.

Muerte wants to free his trapped foot but Cormier is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Muerte prevents Cormier from standing back up.

Muerte takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Muerte is just content to waste time from the top position. Cormier takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Muerte accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Muerte has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Muerte wants to pass the guard but Cormier is keeping the position.
Muerte throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cormier works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Muerte landing some decent shots from guard.
Cormier wants to stand but Muerte is controlling the position.

Cormier is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Muerte throws a strike but Cormier rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Muerte had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cormier defends it easily.

Muerte is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cormier defends well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cormier makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Cormier advances position into side control!
Cormier moves into full mount!

Muerte is trying to escape the mount.
Cormier postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Muerte looks a forlorn figure.
Muerte keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cormier looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cormier looking to finish Muerte with some ground and pound. This is bad for Muerte!
Muerte in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Oooh a big shot lands for Cormier! Muerte is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!
