The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nowak keeps Mellis at a distance using the push kick.
Nowak lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mellis backs up against the ropes.
Mellis doesn't manage to clinch there - Nowak circles away.
Nowak tries for a takedown but Mellis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Mellis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nowak's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mellis lands a couple of elbows.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Mellis postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Nowak covers up, he's hurt! Mellis keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Mellis and the ref steps in to end the fight! Mellis can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
