PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zach Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Sangster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Aqua Teen Hunger Force theme song. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zach Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Sangster!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sangster tries to clinch up but Brooks circles away and keeps his distance.
Brooks moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Sangster closes the distance and clinches up with Brooks, looking for a takedown. Sangster pushes Brooks against the cage but Brooks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Brooks blocks an elbow strike.

Sangster breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brooks tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sangster defends well and Brooks ends up having to push Sangster into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Brooks lands a left hand.
Brooks is trying to pull guard but Sangster turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Brooks is looking to take this one to the mat.

Sangster's coach down at Build Up Crossfit was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Sangster's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Sangster thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Sangster misses with a takedown attempt - Brooks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sangster throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Brooks's waist but Brooks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sangster off to one side.

Sangster throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brooks tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sangster is in Brooks's guard.

Brooks pushes Sangster off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Brooks stalks Sangster and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sangster's face. Sangster staggers backwards, shaken.
Brooks throws a quick inside leg kick.
Brooks tries for a takedown but Sangster sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sangster tries to close the distance and clinch but Brooks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Brooks connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sangster enables Brooks to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sangster manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Bob Sangster is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Sangster has Brooks up against the cage in a clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brooks using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Sangster has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Zach Brooks has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brooks tries to work over Sangster's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Zach Brooks.
I think Sangster has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
