PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nick Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Little Mac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock comes to the ring accompanied by One Winged Angel. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Shamrock!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Little Mac!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mac with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Shamrock on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Nice defenses there by Shamrock.

Shamrock fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mac sprawls well initially but Shamrock persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Shamrock is pressing down on Mac's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mac is holding on for now.

Shamrock seems to be looking for submissions.

Mac is looking to escape.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
The fighters are battling for position here. Mac manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Mac really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shamrock. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shamrock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shamrock is in close to Mac's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Shamrock avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Shamrock has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mac is looking to improve his position.

Mac pushes Shamrock off looking to stand but Shamrock dives back in and keeps control.
Mac tries to get to full guard but Shamrock has control of the leg.
Shamrock really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Shamrock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Shamrock tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shamrock has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mac is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Shamrock is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mac has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Mac's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mac manages to work his way to half guard, despite Shamrock's best efforts.

Mac is defending against the submission attempts here by Shamrock.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Shamrock misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Shamrock looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mac is fending him off so far but Shamrock persists. Nope, Mac circles away and we're back to standing.
Shamrock is breathing heavily.
Shamrock shoots for a double leg takedown but Mac sprawls well. He's pushed Shamrock's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Mac doesn't manage to clinch there - Shamrock circles away.
Mac works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mac fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shamrock manages to avoid it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mac.

Shamrock bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Shamrock is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mac knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mac is looking for a sweep.
Mac is trying to control Shamrock's posture but Shamrock avoids it.
Mac is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Shamrock is staying active.

Mac tries to bench press Shamrock off him but Shamrock keeps the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Shamrock blocks a head kick by Mac.

Mac tries to close the distance and clinch but Shamrock swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shamrock shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mac pinned against the cage. Mac gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Shamrock. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mac tests Shamrock's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Mac tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Mac shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mac showed some decent athleticism there.

Mac looking to sit in guard and control but Shamrock gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shamrock is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mac is just riding it out for now. Shamrock eventually gives up the hold.
Mac is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shamrock's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shamrock's back!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mac looking to break Shamrock's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Shamrock remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Mac will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

A close second round but Little Mac will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mac comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Shamrock tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mac just stands there and leans against the ropes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shamrock tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mac just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Mac changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shamrock looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Mac makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Shamrock really felt that one!

and Shamrock decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mac's guard.

Shamrock is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Mac has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Mac wants to control but Shamrock is having none of it.

Mac tries to lock up and control but Shamrock gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mac is doing well to control the position and prevent Shamrock from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but Nick Shamrock did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mac shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shamrock but Shamrock pushes him off and we're back to square one.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Mac bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Shamrock's head backwards.

Mac has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Mac scores with the left hand. Shamrock knows he should have avoided that one.

Mac shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mac throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mac trying to control from Shamrock's half guard. Shamrock has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Shamrock bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mac's guard.

Shamrock passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mac!

Nick Shamrock overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shamrock is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mac can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Shamrock is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mac can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Mac is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Shamrock has hold of Mac's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mac manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Shamrock goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mac turns into him and now he's in Shamrock's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mac lands a couple of digs.
Mac wants to control from the top but Shamrock keeps moving.

Shamrock is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mac is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Nick Shamrock will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Shamrock had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mac is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Shamrock Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mac's back instead.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nick Shamrock.
I think Shamrock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
