The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De La Hoya tries to move into range but Machida moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Machida moves out of range of the strikes.
Machida takes one to the side of the head.
De La Hoya misses with a hook. Machida ducked under it nicely.
De La Hoya throws a predictable looking body shot
and Machida counters with a head kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
De La Hoya misses with an uppercut
and Machida counters with a body kick that stops De La Hoya in his tracks momentarily.
De La Hoya throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
John De La Hoya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Machida counters with a nice leg kick.

De La Hoya throws a poor cross that misses
and Machida counters with a crisp right that sends De La Hoya to the canvas! Machida follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Lyoto Machida decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
