PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ej Balingit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mir's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Spoilin For A Fight . Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ej Balingit!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Balingit scores with a body shot.
Balingit misses with an uppercut.
Balingit swings away with a body shot that misses
and Mir counters with a right hand to the body.
Ej Balingit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Balingit scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Balingit tries to clinch but Mir moves out of range.
Mir takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Frank Mir has been cut.
Balingit just misses with a punch to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Balingit gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Mir jumps guard and drags Balingit to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ej Balingit was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Mir shoots in and gets a takedown into Balingit's guard.

Balingit is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Balingit is thwarting Mir's attempts to control the position.

Balingit tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Balingit throwing strikes here but Mir is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Mir slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Mir is trying to control but can't.
Mir is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Balingit tests Mir's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Balingit ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mir moves away.
Balingit tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mir was well out of range. Poor timing from Balingit.
Mir avoids the body shot from Balingit.
Balingit getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Balingit punishes Mir's body with a nice straight punch.
Balingit throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mir avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mir takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Balingit fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mir manages to avoid it.
Mir takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Balingit blocks a head kick by Mir.
Balingit lands a glancing blow to the side of Mir's head.


Frank Mir's cut is getting worse.
Balingit uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mir.
Balingit lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Jab, jab by Balingit - just one landing.
Balingit misses with an uppercut. Mir saw that one coming.
A slow jab from Mir misses its intended target.
Balingit digs a good hook to Mir's body.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Balingit misses with a hook.
Balingit throws a body punch but Mir moves out of range.
Mir takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ej Balingit dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Frank Mir's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Balingit misses with a shot to the body

and Mir counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Mir in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Mir is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Balingit is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Balingit has escaped and now he's on top!
Balingit wants to control from the top but Mir keeps moving.
Mir might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mir working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Balingit doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Balingit manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mir is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Balingit postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mir wants to sweep here but Balingit controlling him for the moment.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mir looking to hit a scissor sweep but Balingit is one step ahead there.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ej Balingit wasn't active enough on the ground.
A looping hook to the body misses from Balingit. Mir does a little dance to reset his feet.
Balingit is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Mir rather than just go for the knockout.

enabling Mir to counter with a crisp jab.
Balingit has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
A punch lands to the side of Mir 's head but he takes it in his stride.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mir.

Frank Mir's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Balingit clobbers Mir with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.


Jeez, Frank Mir's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Balingit slaps away a takedown attempt from Mir, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mir fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mir closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Frank Mir's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ej Balingit!
