PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Julio Prieto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Mera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Julio Prieto has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Julio Prieto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Mera!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mera fails with the takedown.
Mera misses with a takedown attempt - Prieto sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Prieto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mera closes the distance and clinches up with Prieto, looking for a takedown. Mera pushes Prieto against the cage but Prieto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Julio Prieto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Mera.

Mera drives through with a takedown into guard.
Prieto wants to stand up but Mera is controlling him.
Mera trying to control the position from guard on top but Prieto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mera controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Prieto is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Prieto trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Mera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jose Mera wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mera looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Prieto is fending him off so far but Mera persists. Nope, Prieto circles away and we're back to standing.
Prieto cracks Mera with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Mera throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Prieto was covering up waiting for the punch and Mera finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Prieto is looking to stand up but Mera isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prieto swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mera trying to control but Prieto is working from the bottom.
Mera is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Prieto keeping moving, preventing Mera from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jose Mera has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mera takes one on the button.
Prieto lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mera has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Prieto finds it's way round the side to connect with Mera's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mera on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Mera needs to keep his hands up - Prieto had a free shot at his head there.
Mera fails with the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mera closes the distance looking to clinch
and Prieto counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Mera doesn't manage to clinch there - Prieto circles away.
Mera misses with a takedown attempt - Prieto sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mera.
Mera has control of an arm but Prieto manages to advance to Mera's back!

Prieto keeps control of the position easily here as Mera tries to buck him off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mera breaks Prieto's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Mera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Prieto swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Prieto is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mera is controlling him.
Mera advances to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Prieto pushes Mera off looking to stand but Mera dives back in and keeps control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mera wants to take a breather but Prieto is having none of it.
Mera moves nicely into side control.

Mera thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Mera dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mera tries to clinch up.
Nice uppercut lands for Prieto. That snapped Mera's head back.
Prieto lands with a hook. Mera tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Mera takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Mera takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Prieto misses with a wild body shot.

Mera closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Prieto to the mat! Prieto manages to get full guard.
Prieto keeping moving, preventing Mera from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mera passes Prieto's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mera wants to pass the guard but Prieto is defending well.
Mera is still trying to improve position.

Mera has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Prieto defend it? Mera steps over the head and cranks it - Prieto is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Mera!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jose Mera!
An out of breath and clearly excited Jose Mera thanked Tab out for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
