Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jeff Speakman!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Gracie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Speakman was covering up waiting for the punch and Gracie finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Speakman can't keep his opponent in guard - Gracie advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Speakman holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Gracie is working for a submission of some sort.
Gracie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Speakman avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gracie.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Speakman has managed to free his arm - good work.
Speakman trying to hold on to Gracie's head to control him but Gracie postures up.
Speakman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gracie passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Speakman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Speakman is trying to get back to half guard.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Speakman tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Gracie presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie throws a wild left hand from mount and Speakman manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Speakman wants to get back to his feet.
Gracie works his foot free and advances to mount.
Gracie with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Speakman is looking to improve his position but Gracie isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Gracie has hold of Speakman's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Speakman manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Gracie goes for an armbar but Speakman turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Speakman.

Gracie is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Speakman frees his head nicely. Oh but Gracie has switched to an armbar! Speakman is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Peter Gracie!
Peter Gracie took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
