PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Herbert Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Cory (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cory has chosen Richard Cory as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Herbert Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Cory!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cory scores with a nice head shot.
Taylor throws a chopping leg kick but Cory manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Cory closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Taylor lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cory circles away quickly and effectively.

Taylor darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Taylor trying to mount his opponent but Cory defends it.
Taylor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cory does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cory blocking the ground and pound attempt from Taylor.
Taylor moves nicely into side control.
Taylor sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Cory is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Taylor is trying to get an arm triangle but Cory is defending well.
Taylor trying to control the position but Cory is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Taylor in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Taylor works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Cory wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Taylor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Cory is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Taylor asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Taylor lands an elbow.
Cory really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cory is not content to let Taylor control the position.

Taylor wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cory, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Taylor is looking to take a break and control but Cory is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Taylor is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cory has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cory taking punishment in the form of punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Taylor throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Cory works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cory can do anything to dispel that myth.
Taylor sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Taylor passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cory!
Cory is squirming around, avoiding Taylor's attempts to control the action.
Cory is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Taylor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Cory is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Taylor is working for a guillotine from mount but Cory frees his head quite easily.
Cory is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Taylor can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cory is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Taylor has hold of Cory's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cory manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Herbert Taylor dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Taylor throws a sloppy head kick and Cory moves out of range easily.
Taylor rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Cory counters with a three punch combo that has Taylor backing up. Taylor nods at Cory to acknowledge the strikes.
Cory lands a nice shot that snaps Taylor's head back.
Cory shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Taylor throws a jab but it's blocked by Cory.
Cory tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Taylor slips a jab and a cross from Cory.
A slow jab from Taylor misses its intended target.

Cory moves into range and clinches up with Taylor.
Cory can't find room to land a body shot as Taylor controls the action.
Taylor prevents Cory from breaking the clinch.
Taylor throws an elbow but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Taylor works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Taylor sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cory's guard.
Cory is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Taylor is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cory is just riding it out for now. Taylor eventually gives up the hold.

Taylor is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Taylor quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Taylor but it's paid off an Cory is forced to tap! Nice work by Taylor.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Herbert Taylor!
