PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Mathers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lars Thunstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mathers comes into the arena with Superman blaring out of the sound system. Thunstrom is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Prodigy - Spitfire. Marshall Mathers is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 12 - 4, fighting out of Tokyo, Marshall Mathers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 1, fighting out of New York, Lars Thunstrom!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Lou da Vinci and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thunstrom stuffs the takedown attempt from Mathers. Mathers gets slowly back to his feet.
Thunstrom connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Thunstrom lands the left hand.
Thunstrom tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mathers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Thunstrom takes one to the side of the head.

Thunstrom is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mathers's half guard.

Thunstrom looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Thunstrom wants to work for an arm triangle but Mathers is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Thunstrom is working for a kimura but Mathers is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mathers is defending against the submission attempts here by Thunstrom.

Thunstrom is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mathers is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Thunstrom's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Thunstrom's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mathers cracks Thunstrom with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Thunstrom from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Thunstrom tries to roll but Mathers sticks to his back.
Mathers missing with strikes.

Thunstrom avoids the strikes from Mathers.
Mathers has the hooks in. Thunstrom is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Mathers lands punches and elbows.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thunstrom manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Thunstrom.
Mathers is in close to Thunstrom's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Mathers connects with a couple of short punches.
Mathers throws a big elbow that misses.

Thunstrom looking for a guillotine here but Mathers defends easily.
Mathers trying to control but Thunstrom is working from the bottom.

Mathers preventing the sweep.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mathers's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mathers in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mathers throws a strike but Thunstrom rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mathers seems keen to control Thunstrom's posture.
Mathers controls Thunstrom momentarily but Thunstrom frees himself.
Mathers tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Thunstrom trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mathers has Thunstrom pulled in close to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Marshall Mathers.
Thunstrom clobbers Mathers with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Thunstrom lands a slapping body shot.

Thunstrom closes the distance and clinches.
Thunstrom throws a punch but it's blocked by Mathers.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Thunstrom keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Mathers's efforts to push away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thunstrom makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Mathers tries a body shot but Thunstrom blocks it.
Nice body punch from Mathers.
Thunstrom lands on the inside with an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marshall Mathers dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Thunstrom tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mathers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Thunstrom fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Thunstrom rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mathers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mathers misses with a head kick.
Thunstrom throws a right and a left that Mathers avoids nicely.

Thunstrom instigates a clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Thunstrom creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Thunstrom prevents Mathers from breaking the clinch.

Mathers manages to break the clinch.
Thunstrom takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Mathers thows a body shot but no joy.
Thunstrom misses with a wild body shot.
Thunstrom looks to score with a jab to the body but Mathers is just out of range.
Mathers avoids the body shot from Thunstrom.
Mathers misses the shot to the body.
Thunstrom cracks Mathers with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Thunstrom looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mathers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Thunstrom is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Mathers is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Lars Thunstrom!
During a confident post fight interview, Lars Thunstrom thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
