PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cameron Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Johnston!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.
Johnston scores with a nice body kick.
Jones takes a kick to the side of the head.

Jones is rocked!
Johnston fails with the takedown.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jones misses with a head kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnston is defended easily by Jones.
Johnston changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Johnston manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones seems to have got his legs back now.
Cameron Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Johnston.

Johnston has Jones pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Johnston drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jones pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jones looks to land a right hand but Johnston moved out of range.
Johnston misses with a takedown

and Jones counters with a takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Jones tries to advance to mount but Johnston denies him.
Johnston can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You can see the frustration on Johnston's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Johnston tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position.

Jones tries to get to his feet but Johnston is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Jones in his guard.
Johnston has control of Jones's left arm, preventing Jones from doing any damage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnston had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jones defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Johnston shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Johnston shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnston's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Johnston manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnston has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Johnston's legs - danger averted.

Johnston is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Johnston is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Johnston eventually gives up the hold.

Johnston passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jones!

Joe Johnston showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Johnston is pushing Jones up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Johnston has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jones uses from the top position.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnston on the ground.

Jones wants to stand and escape but instead Johnston has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Johnston slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Jones.

Johnston is pressing down on Jones's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jones is holding on for now.

Well Johnston has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
