The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Bjergsen throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Bjergsen sizes up Maurer with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Bjergsen throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Maurer counters with a thumping low kick.
Maurer scores with a head kick.
Maurer throws a quick inside leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bjergsen is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Maurer.
Bjergsen misses with a hook.
Bjergsen takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
A shot to the body from Bjergsen misses

and Maurer counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Maurer.
Maurer makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Maurer manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Maurer is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Maurer manages to break the clinch.
A big left from Bjergsen misses.
Bjergsen throws a lazy head kick
and Maurer counters with a stiff right hand.
Maurer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bjergsen throws out the jab.
Bjergsen thows a left - swing and a miss!

That's one minute gone in the round.
A slapping body kick lands there for Maurer.
Bjergsen is breathing heavily.
Maurer circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Bjergsen drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Maurer follows Bjergsen to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

A relieved looking Mario Maurer thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
