PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Renato King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Knut Ludvigsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King comes into the arena with Supreme court hymn blaring out of the sound system. Ludvigsen has chosen Grevling I Taket as his entrance music. Knut Ludvigsen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Renato King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Knut Ludvigsen!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King just misses with a punch to the body.
King misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nice uppercut there from King.
King shoots in for a double leg but Ludvigsen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
King misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ludvigsen.
Ludvigsen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ludvigsen pushes King away with a front kick.
Ludvigsen lands a leg kick that knocks King off balance momentarily.
Ludvigsen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from King.
King misses with a takedown attempt - Ludvigsen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renato King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
King lands with a right hand.

Ludvigsen throws a low kick but it's checked well by King.
Ludvigsen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
King thows a body shot but no joy.
Ludvigsen takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
King throws the left hand but Ludvigsen avoids the punch easily.

Ludvigsen has closed the distance and engaged King in a clinch.

King has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ludvigsen uses from the top position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Ludvigsen content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ludvigsen is looking to work some ground and pound but King has wrist control.
King controls Ludvigsen momentarily but Ludvigsen frees himself.

King wants to sweep but no luck.
Ludvigsen is looking to work some ground and pound but King has wrist control.
King is trying to control the position but Ludvigsen postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ludvigsen manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

King wants to pass the guard but Ludvigsen is keeping the position.
King wants to control from the top but Ludvigsen keeps moving.
Ludvigsen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in King's guard.
Ludvigsen lands a couple of digs.
This has been an exciting period of action!
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
King is pulling down on Ludvigsen's head. It's preventing any offense from Ludvigsen, at least for the moment.

Ludvigsen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ludvigsen postures up and lands a big shot to King's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Knut Ludvigsen will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

King throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
King dives in and grabs Ludvigsen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ludvigsen pushes down on King's head and hops out.
King works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

King throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Ludvigsen counters with a nice body shot.
A slapping leg kick lands for Ludvigsen.
Donk. King catches Ludvigsen right on the button with a cross.

and Ludvigsen counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps King thinking.
Ludvigsen stuffs the takedown attempt from King. King gets slowly back to his feet.
King keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ludvigsen wants to control but King is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Knut Ludvigsen has got the better of the ground game so far.

King is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

King seems to be looking for submissions.
Ludvigsen tries to roll over but King keeps him under control.
Ludvigsen is looking to control King's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ludvigsen avoid being mounted?

King is fighting to break Ludvigsen's control of his arms but Ludvigsen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
King postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Renato King will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


King shoots in for a takedown but Ludvigsen shows good takedown defense.
King throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Horrible takedown by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Ludvigsen which made him look bad.
King tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ludvigsen was well out of range. Poor timing from King.
Ludvigsen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

King is looking for a sweep. Ludvigsen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ludvigsen lands a nice short elbow.
King is in trouble now - Ludvigsen has advanced to mount!

King is looking to improve his position but Ludvigsen isn't that keen on the idea.

A nice elbow there by Ludvigsen.
Ludvigsen cracks King with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.


King is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Ludvigsen's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Knut Ludvigsen!
A very excited looking Knut Ludvigsen made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
