Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Emelyan Pugachov!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pugachov lands a head kick!


It looks like Fred Safire has been cut.

Safire has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pugachov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

It looks like Emelyan Pugachov has been cut.

Pugachov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fred Safire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pugachov lands with a kick to the temple. Safire shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Pugachov digs a right hand into Safire's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Safire's gas tank.

Safire is working for takedown but Pugachov is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Safire. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Safire is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Pugachov misses with a hook to the ribs.

Pugachov's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Safire takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Safire is trying to drag Pugachov to the mat but Pugachov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pugachov escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Safire tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Pugachov throws a sloppy head kick and Safire moves out of range easily.

Pugachov takes the fight into the clinch.
Safire is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Pugachov is defending well.
Pugachov manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Safire pulls guard successfully.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Pugachov is in close to Safire's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Pugachov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.


Fred Safire's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Pugachov loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Pugachov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Safire is proving hard to escape from.

Safire had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pugachov defends it easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Pugachov is looking to work some ground and pound but Safire has wrist control.

Safire has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pugachov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pugachov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pugachov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Safire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pugachov has managed to get both his arms back between Safire's legs - danger averted.
Pugachov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pugachov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.


Jeez, Fred Safire's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Fred Safire's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Emelyan Pugachov!
