The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Darnielle uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Supermies.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Darnielle fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Supermies looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Supermies moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Supermies bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Darnielle's head backwards.

Darnielle lands a lovely overhand right.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Darnielle enables Supermies to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Darnielle manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Supermies throws a strike but Darnielle rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Supermies working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Darnielle doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Darnielle manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are battling for position here. Supermies manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Supermies escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Darnielle gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Supermies might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Darnielle shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Supermies eats them both and turns towards Darnielle to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The fight stays on the outside here - Darnielle looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Supermies is looking to work some ground and pound but Darnielle has wrist control.
Supermies stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Darnielle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Darnielle is pulling down on Supermies's head. It's preventing any offense from Supermies, at least for the moment.
Supermies throws a strike but Darnielle rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Supermies is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Supermies had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Darnielle defends it easily.
John Darnielle is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Simo Supermies overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Supermies looking to hit a scissor sweep but Darnielle is one step ahead there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Supermies has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Darnielle can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
