PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Montferrand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Montferrand's choice of entrance music: Big Joe Mufferaw. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joseph Montferrand!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall throws a half hearted mid kick.
Hall swings for the body but Montferrand moves out of range.
Hall takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Some wild striking there from Montferrand.
Hall misses with a low kick as Montferrand jumps back.
Montferrand misses with a few strikes there.
Hall thows a body shot but no joy.
Montferrand swings for the body but Hall moves out of range.
Hall is looking to land body kicks.
Hall misses with a kick to the body.
Danga de danga de dang - Montferrand scores with a four punch combination!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Montferrand will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Montferrand pinned against the cage. Montferrand gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hall pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Hall looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Montferrand is looking to improve his position.
Montferrand pushes Hall off looking to stand but Hall dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hall is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Montferrand doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hall.

Hall seems to be working for a kimura but Montferrand defends the submission attempt.

Hall is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hall is keen to just control but Montferrand is a slippery customer.
Montferrand tries to roll over but Hall keeps him under control.

Hall is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Montferrand sees it coming and defends easily.

Hall is working for a kimura but Montferrand is defending it quite comfortably.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Montferrand avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hall.
Montferrand is controlling Hall's trapped leg to prevent Hall from advancing to side control.
Let's hope that Montferrand has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hall not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Montferrand wants to get back to full guard.
Hall prevents Montferrand from standing back up.
Hall seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Montferrand does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Montferrand scores with a hook to the body. Hall takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hall is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Montferrand misses with a looping left.
Hall moves forwards but Montferrand connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Montferrand will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hall on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Montferrand connects with a body shot that sends Hall's belly button to the back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Montferrand lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hall circles away quickly and effectively.
Hall uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Montferrand.
Hall gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Montferrand gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joseph Montferrand!
During a confident post fight interview, Joseph Montferrand thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
