PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alocke Grenado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garrett Greene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Garrett Greene was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alocke Grenado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Garrett Greene!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grenado gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Grenado lands a nice elbow.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Grenado.
Grenado lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Greene or not.
Grenado lands with a left to the head.
Grenado with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Grenado landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Grenado taking a breather.
Greene is working for takedown but Grenado is calmly controlling the position for now.
Grenado gets through Greene's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Greene is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Grenado lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Grenado breaks from the clinch.
Greene doesn't manage to clinch there - Grenado circles away.

and Greene counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Greene wants to pass the guard but Grenado is keeping the position.
Grenado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Greene accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Greene has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Greene trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Greene throws and elbow that misses. Grenado uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Greene's guard. Nice move by Grenado!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Greene had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Grenado is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Greene Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Grenado's back instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grenado wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Grenado is in a bad position with Greene working for a choke. Grenado manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
Grenado tries to stand but Greene is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alocke Grenado will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Greene misses with a wild combination.
Grenado closes the distance looking to clinch

and Greene counters by clinching up.
Greene tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Grenado smiles and moves away.

Grenado forces Greene back against the cage and clinches.

Grenado breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Greene counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Grenado trying to control here.
Greene uses his free foot to push down on Grenado's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Grenado.

Grenado really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Grenado knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Greene on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Grenado holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Greene tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Greene thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grenado is in all sorts of trouble here.

Greene working for a guillotine from mount but Grenado is in no mood to give up.

Greene moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Grenado has worked his arm free - good work by Grenado!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Grenado is pushing Greene's head away, looking to escape. Greene manages to hold on to the position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garrett Greene showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Greene circles away from the clinch attempt.

Grenado gets a clinch.

Grenado breaks from the clinch.
Greene will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Grenado moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

and Greene counters with a single leg into guard. Grenado didn't expect that.
Greene connects with a couple of short punches.

Greene is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Grenado is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Grenado has escaped and now he's on top!

Greene working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grenado doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grenado manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Greene is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Grenado pulls his head out easily.
Greene moves into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Garrett Greene comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Greene has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
