PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Choke Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Coach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Intro - DMX. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Choke Liddell!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Coach!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coach misses the shot to the body.
Nice body punch from Coach.
Liddell uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Coach.
Coach waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Liddell.
Liddell throws a head kick that misses.
Coach takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Liddell throws a head kick but Coach moves out of range.
Liddell throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Liddell takes a swing at Coach's ribcage but misses.
James Coach seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coach lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Coach shoots and misses
and Liddell counters with a left to the body.
Coach scores with a jab to the jaw.
Coach throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Coach wants to clinch
and Liddell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Coach thinking.
Liddell walks into a stiff left hand from Coach.
Liddell lands a nice hook to Coach's body. Coach takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A punch lands to the side of Liddell 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Liddell uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Coach.
Liddell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Coach's waist but Coach gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Liddell off to one side.
Liddell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Coach misses with a right hand
and Liddell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Coach gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Liddell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Liddell shoots in for a double leg but Coach sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Coach throws a nice outside leg kick.
Liddell is looking to wear down Coach with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Coach connects with a body shot that sends Liddell's belly button to the back.
Coach lands a nice looking body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Coach throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Liddell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A slow jab from Coach misses its intended target.

Liddell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Coach looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Coach is not content to let Liddell control the position.
Coach gets back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Liddell not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Liddell prevents Coach from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coach is trying to control but can't.
Coach blocking the ground and pound attempt from Liddell.
Liddell working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Coach wants to improve his position but Liddell is controlling well.
Coach is in trouble now - Liddell has advanced to mount!
Liddell lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Coach is desperately trying to improve his position but Liddell has a good base and remains in mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Coach is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Liddell is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Liddell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Liddell with shots to the head and body - Coach looks very uncomfortable down there.
Coach squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Liddell landing shots from mount.
Coach tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Liddell lands a nice shot to the head.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Coach is bucking up trying to escape but Liddell cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Liddell working away from the top, dropping strikes.


Coach is rocked!
Liddell lands a big shot there that rocks Coach but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Coach is still in real trouble! Can Liddell finish him?
Liddell connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Liddell postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Coach in real trouble here! The ref calls for Coach to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Choke Liddell!
Choke Liddell retains his light heavyweight title!
A relieved looking Choke Liddell thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
