PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jiri Hyvonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rich Dreyfuss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hyvonen comes to the cage accompanied by One Morning Left - Jack The Flipper (Where's My Bodyguard?). Rich Dreyfuss struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 146.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Jiri Hyvonen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dreyfuss fails with the takedown.
Hyvonen throws a right hand that Dreyfuss ducks under and follows up with a left that Dreyfuss also avoids with ease.
Hyvonen shoots and misses

and Dreyfuss counters with a takedown into side control.
Dreyfuss misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Hyvonen takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Dreyfuss throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Hyvonen works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Dreyfuss looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hyvonen is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dreyfuss scores with a couple of nice shots.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dreyfuss wants to pass to mount but Hyvonen is defending the position.
Dreyfuss is stalling here. Hyvonen is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Dreyfuss seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hyvonen has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Dreyfuss tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hyvonen paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Dreyfuss feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hyvonen uses the cage to get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dreyfuss wants to control but Hyvonen is keeping busy.

Dreyfuss really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hyvonen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dreyfuss is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dreyfuss can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rich Dreyfuss comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dreyfuss has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
