PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Duke Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiro Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Watanabe has chosen Tan Dun- Night Flight as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Duke Powers has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Duke Powers seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Duke Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiro Watanabe!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Powers.

Watanabe uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Powers.
Powers misses with a two punch combination.

Watanabe fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Powers to the ground. Watanabe is now in Powers's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Watanabe passes Powers's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Watanabe seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Powers misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Powers has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Watanabe slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
I really don't envy Powers right now.

Powers stuffs the takedown.

Powers throws a nice looking combination but Watanabe bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Watanabe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Powers is trying to defend but Watanabe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Watanabe perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Watanabe is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Powers still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Powers has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Powers decides to stand back up. Powers steps back and let's Watanabe get back to his feet.
Powers defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Watanabe.
Powers goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Hiro Watanabe has been cut.
Duke Powers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Powers lands a slapping body shot.
Watanabe takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Powers connects with a good right hand that stumbles Watanabe. Watanabe circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Powers swats away the attempt to clinch by Watanabe.
Powers scores with a decent looking hook.

Powers throws a series of punches but Watanabe moves out of range.

Powers gets caught napping as Watanabe dives in and scores a takedown. Powers manages to retain guard.
Duke Powers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hiro Watanabe is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Watanabe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
