Robben has chosen Champions Anthem as his entrance music. Arjen Robben looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akiyama wants to free his trapped foot but Robben is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Akiyama knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Robben on the ground.
Akiyama uses his free foot to push down on Robben's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Robben.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Akiyama jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Robben manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The referee asks Akiyama politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Akiyama prefers to stall for the moment though.

Robben takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Akiyama connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Robben some visible discomfort.
Akiyama cracks Robben with a big right hand but Robben just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Akiyama remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Well, if Akiyama is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Akiyama is trying to work for a kimura but Robben is defending well.
