Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Smit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Melbye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smit comes to the cage accompanied by Can't be Touched. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Smit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Melbye!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smit dodges the punch combination from Melbye.
Melbye tries to close the distance and clinch but Smit swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A cross from Smit lands.
Melbye goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Melbye looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smit is fending him off so far but Melbye persists. Nope, Smit circles away and we're back to standing.
Melbye throws a push kick but Smit slaps the foot to one side.
Smit scores with a sloppy right hand. Melbye should have avoided that one.
Smit lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Smit throws a sloppy head kick
and Melbye counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Smit swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smit throws a jab but it's blocked by Melbye.
Smit misses with a looping left.
Smit pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Melbye throws a head kick but Smit moves out of range.

Melbye uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smit.
Smit scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Melbye looks to score with a jab to the body but Smit is just out of range.
Smit lands a high kick!
No joy there for Smit, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smit throws a combination that misses
and Melbye counters with a nice uppercut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Melbye looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A lazy left from Smit finds it's target.
Nice body kick from Smit.
Melbye throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Smit takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smit throws a head kick but Melbye moves out of range.
Melbye shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Melbye shoots for a double leg takedown but Smit sprawls well. He's pushed Melbye's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Smit throws a head kick that misses
and Melbye counters with a series of strikes. Smit will be more careful next time no doubt.
Melbye tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Smit lands a high kick!
Melbye tries to clinch up.
Smit throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Melbye counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Smit throws a head kick that misses
and Melbye counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smit throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Smit lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Melbye fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Paul Smit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Melbye.

Melbye shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smit as he jumps to the side.
Melbye throws a sloppy head kick
and Smit counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Melbye moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Smit throws a head kick but Melbye moves out of range.
Smit plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Smit throws a left and a right that both miss
and Melbye counters with a good low kick that Smit was not able to check.
Melbye tries to clinch but Smit moves away
enabling Smit to counter with a crisp jab.
A head kick misses from Smit.
Smit lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Smit lands with a slapping head kick.


Melbye is rocked!
Melbye looks gassed!
Smit digs a good body shot into Melbye's ribs.
Melbye is still on wobbly legs! Can Smit finish him?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Smit misses with a jab, cross combination.
Melbye seems to have recovered his senses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smit lands a right hook to the body.
A head kick by Melbye misses
and Smit counters with a one-two to the body.
Smit plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Smit throws a nice head kick!
Smit connects with a jab.
Melbye misses with a takedown attempt
and Smit counters with a nice body kick.
Smit just misses with a punch to the body.
Smit misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Smit.
Melbye avoids the head kick by Smit.
Smit misses with a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Smit dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Smit throws a head kick that half lands.
Melbye walks into a stiff left hand from Smit.
A punch combination from Smit misses.
Paul Smit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smit ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Melbye moves away.
Melbye lands with a straight right. Smit didn't see that one coming.
Melbye keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Smit's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Smit duly obliges.
Melbye tries to clinch but Smit is having none of it.
Smit misses with a head kick.
Melbye walks into a straight right hand from Smit.
Melbye connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Smit lands a head kick!
Melbye misses with a leg kick
and Melbye takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Melbye looks for the body kick but Smit saw that one coming.
Smit misses with a wild combination.
Smit checks a leg kick.
Smit misses with a head kick.
A left and a right from Smit both land. Nice combination.
Paul Smit is winning the standup battle so far.
Smit keeps Melbye at a distance using the push kick.
Smit swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Melbye counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Melbye is working for a submission of some sort.
Smit wants to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Melbye is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smit defends it well.
Smit tries to get to full guard but Melbye has control of the leg.
Smit tries to kick Melbye off in order to stand up. Melbye Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Smit knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Melbye on the ground.
Melbye tries to advance to mount but Smit denies him.

Melbye has hold of Smit's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Smit seems comfortable defending it but Melbye has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Smit is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Smit is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Melbye couldn't care less - he's delighted!
